I'm currently a sophomore at Eastern CT State University. I'm a computer science major and I have a 3.53 GPA. I went to Eastern because I didn't get accepted to Uconn. I've heard about Uconn's computer science program being tougher but allowing me to learn more than what Eastern provides for Computer Science. Also, while I don't go to college primarily for the fun aspect, Eastern is pretty boring on weekends with the campus being deserted, and I hear a bunch of things are usually going on at Uconn. People have told me that Uconn's a different environment, more expensive, and more difficult, but from what I've seen of it, I think it has a better program for Computer Science than Eastern's. I'm also thinking of going into software for computer science, and I hear Uconn has a better program for that than Eastern, I would have to take an independent study. Anyone who's done the program at Eastern and/or Uconn that can give me some advice whether I should transfer to Uconn or stay at Eastern? I'm looking to get the most out of my education but also want to have a good college experience too.

Anyone who’s been to either school for the program or both of them?

Did you post in the UConn forum?

I would *imagine *the programs and opportunities would be better at UConn. You may have to work a little harder to get good grades, but I think you might be willing to make that tradeoff based on the tone of your post…

I would definitely say go to UCONN I’m from Manchester CT and I’ve been accepted to UCONN and it is much more reputable than Eastern and you will most likely have a better chance at a job if you go to UConn. Eastern is not ranked in the top 340 colleges while UConn is ranked around #60. Everyonr who goes to UConn that I know is happy.

Okay posted it in the Uconn forum as well just now. The only thing I think I have going against me is my SAT scores. They were like 500 CR and 480 Math. I heard they don’t give them as much weight though after earning at least 30 or 40 credits.

Go to UConn. Never even heard of the other school you’re talking about.

Note that what are usually 200-level courses elsewhere are 300-level courses at ECSU (CSC 330, 310, and 320), so if you are considering transferring at the junior level, you may want to be sure to take those courses before transfer so that you can go into actual 300-level courses at the next school.
