Stdudent council~Would you want me?

We have to write a 500 word essay on why we want to be on student council, our experience and the qualities we have. Would you accept me? How can I improve it? :)

Student council is the voice of the students in the large body of adults who govern the school, and I want to be one of the voices. As a sophomore at Academy High School, I have seen many things in my year here that could be changed or improved. I want to join to be able to help address these concerns and make our school a better place. I think every student council member should have the desire of voicing the concerns of their fellow peers and be able to lead and be willing to put the extra effort and time into student council. These students must be responsible enough to keep up their grades while spending time not required helping out their school. A student council member must be patient, understanding and open minded. They must make decisions based on what is good for all their peers and not themselves. I possess all of the above qualities and many others needed to successfully be a part of student council such as being a team worker and being responsible. Many students join student council for the honor but I think it is more important for student council to be composed of a group of students who truly want to be in it. I have had two years of experience of being on student council in a very large middle school. In sixth grade, I was the class president and worked very hard that year by helping plan the many events by school had and volunteering for many extra tasks. In seventh grade, I become the grade representative of more than two hundred students. This was the highest position I could hold considering my age. I was in charge of organizing all of the seventh grade events as well as helping plan school wide on goings. I changed many things in the school that made it a better place. One of the first things I did to help them was to plan more fundraising events for student council. I brought many creative ideas to the table. After we had raised enough money, we hired a web designer, who designed the student council website making it an even more well-known and desirable club to be part of. I think this is something that could be improved in our school too. This was a position in which I did very well. In fact the principal himself told me that he was very proud of my work and was glad I decided to take up the responsibility. I believe I have many of the qualities that student council is looking for and I have a respectable amount of experience. I have the desire to join because it is something I truly enjoy doing. If I get accepted to student council, I am sure I will be a great asset to the group and will work my hardest to make Academy High School the best place it can be.

I think you did pretty well as far as content goes, but you’ve got quite a few awkward sentences. Were you looking for grammar/structure revisions? Because I do enjoy picking apart people’s essays.

At my (old) HS and most other schools, student council = poster making club. So I always LOL when I hear student council applicants say stuff like “I want to improve the school”.

^Student Council is a popularity contest at my school. As a naive freshman, I tried to pick the most “well-rounded” candidates. It currently consists of five attractive, popular, preppy girls and one metro guy.

Anyway, I think your essay is fine. Are you giving it as a speech? Because if your audience is your classmates, they might get bored with the details and wonder more about what you’re actually going to do for them. For a teacher or whatever, it shouldn’t be an issue. Peace.

Yeah could u grammer check it  ANd i just have to turn it in

Unlike the above posters, my Student Council is actually very alive and active…we plan most big activities around the school and consistently have a lot of work. Though, we do have it as a class at my school.

As an officer of Student Council for the past two years and a member for three, you have a good essay. If I were interviewing you or trying to decide whether I’d admit you, you’d meet all my criteria. When we interview potential members we always want specifics on what they can bring and their general outlook for the future, something you’ve addressed.

As I said above, student council = poster club. SC people were always making posters for some theme week or other lame event.

We never do a theme week! lol

Posters yes, but not really lame events. Like I said though, our STUCO is way different though because of our administration and the fact that we actually have it as a class in our schedule. Most schools do the posters and lame events part, though.

Obviously, you shouldn’t word-for-word copy what I suggested in parentheses, but I hope I gave you some good ideas :stuck_out_tongue: I just did the first half because I think it needed a bit more help, but you should give the second half a look over too.

Student council is the voice of the students in the large body of adults who govern the school, and I want to be one of the voices. (I have always had a desire to join the group of students that, within the large body of adults at our school, has the ability to express the voice of the students [Or at least change “the voices” to “those voices”]).

As a sophomore at Academy High School, I have seen many things in my year here that could be changed or improved. I want to join to be able to help address these concerns and make our school a better place. (During my freshman year at Academy High School, many things came to my attention that could be improved upon. Now, as a sophomore, I want to make those changes to help make our school a better place).

I think every student council member should have the desire of voicing the concerns of their fellow [peers are your “fellows”, not necessary] peers and be able to lead and be willing to put the extra effort and time into student council. (To be a truly successful member of student council, one must have strong leadership abilities and take an interest in the concerns of their peers. It is also important that a member must practice responsibility by making sure their promises on changes are followed through while maintaining their grades. In addition, patience, understanding, and willingness to work with a team are essential qualities for the job. I believe I possess all of those qualities [Do you have examples of leadership positions, etc.? Put them in here]).
