STUDENT COUNCIL! Need help! :(

Ok so I need to turn this in tonight! I really really want to be in student council. Can you guys please read my essay? :)

Student Council Essay

Student Council is supposed to be the voice of the students and unfortunately, in our school, this voice is nearly nonexistent. I want to join Student Council in order to ensure that the needs and ideas of students are heard. I want to help change the future (and present state) of our school.
As a member, I could bring a variety and well-rounded list of traits and talents. The main compliant of the majority of people who leave our school is that it is “boring”. We could change their opinions of our school by adding fun events that would make them want to come here. I have a plethora of ideas to make our school a better place, such as having a real talent show and spirit week. We need more events to unite the student body. In order to have these events be a success, student council needs a devoted team. I get along very well with others and am a great team member. Many people do not listen to others ideas and just want to do everything their own way. I listen to others and find a compromise for whatever we are doing. I would be a loyal member. If I start something, I always continue it all the way. I am very interested in being a member of Student Council because I believe that you should be a part of your school and not just sit on the sidelines. I am also very punctual. If a group of people are relying on me to finish something, I will. This is an important trait needed in order to ensure that everything keeps running smoothly and on schedule.

I have a considerable amount of leadership and volunteer experience. I was in Student Council during middle school and helped organize many of the school events. In high school, I joined Senior Beta Club and did a large amount of volunteer work (including waking up at 4 am to give water to dogs!). I am always ready to volunteer because I truly enjoy it and believe that helping the community is better than doing nothing at home. Our school needs to be more well-known to the public and a great way to do this is to help the local community. This would allow people to see that the students at YSA are well rounded, caring individuals. Student council needs people willing to work hard and give up time. Student Council needs someone like me. : )

First sentence and you’re already dissing the organization?

You use “I” in almost every sentence.

I could add more, but you get the point.

Change up your sentence structure. The current structure sounds juvenile.

Honestly, it sounds like you’re trying to take over Student Council. Focus more on the organization as a whole and how you can contribute to them. Not what they’re doing wrong and how you could do better.

Haha wow. It really does sound like that 0_0! Ok can I fix it up and send it to u?

Sure, if you want. You could also repost it on here so the more people can tell you why you improved on and whatnot…?

Ok better idea :stuck_out_tongue: BTW I’m not trying to diss the SC. It’s just that it’s true that last year we barely had a SC! Everyone knows that.

As a member, I could bring a variety and well-rounded list of traits and talents. These include interesting ideas, being a good team worker, being loyal and responsible. I have a plethora of ideas to make our school a better place, such as having a real talent show and spirit week. Another idea that I have is to start a school newspaper run by the Student Council. This would solve the current lack of participation in school events due to the students being uninformed.

Adding me to the student council would be a benefit to both me and the school. It would give the school someone who is ready to help out in every way and it would give me an opportunity to help out at our school, something that I have always wanted to do. Student council needs people willing to work hard and give up time. Student Council needs someone like me. : )

Much much much muh better!

I like it. It addresses the short comings of the previous year and you provide solutions.

Bien hecho![Good job!]

Thank you  I hope I get in!!

Anyone else have suggestions?

Make yourself unique. I did my student council speech based off of a section in the Cat in the Hat and it was pretty interesting. I didn’t get in, but everyone remembers my speech (even the teachers!). I know it’s not a speech, but add some points to your essay that only you can say, or something that everyone will remember.

I don’t know if this is how it is at your school, but at mine the people who win are the ones who do the most outrageous thing. No one really cares about speeches. I didn’t even read the whole thing. I was extremely disappointed when I didn’t get into student council but now I’ve realized that students will vote for the kid who dresses up in a hot dog costume and dances rather than the one who sits and talks about their qualifications.
