I'm applying to NYU's Steinhardt but unlike many other people posting here I'm not going for music or theatre so my application doesn't have an audition. Does anyone know how hard it is to get into Steinhardt with a major that doesn't require an audition? (Specifically communications). I know that Stern is one of the harder schools to get into but i haven't heard much about Steinhardt, any help would be great!

I'm a Comm major and I'd definitely say it's not the hardest thing to get into, but keep in mind, it's still NYU. Comm and Education are the largest majors in Steinhardt, I think. But anyway, NYU is not easy to get into no matter what.

Steinhardt isn't difficult to get into by any means. Write an excellent essay, have a decent amount of ec's and you will do fine - if you have the grades that is. If you're a dude, your chances are even greater. I'm in Steinhardt by the way.

It all depends on the stats of the students applying, so it can be difficult to get accepted in terms of the competitiveness of the applicants - SAT scores are definitely looked at and taken seriously.

well my grades have been all over the place since i've gone to three high schools and moved two years ago from a high school in colombia but hopefully my personal statement explaining that will help but i'm not sure if my ACT (30) is good enough or just average.. Ive also had a very broad list EC's because of all the different schools/cities, but I guess im worried on my chances because of my grades and if theyll really take into account that im taking the hardest curriculum available (IB diploma)

so not many people have been applying to communications? how is it possible that only 5 people have applied?

5 sounds pretty ridiculously low. But then again the RD deadline isn't for a while.

I'm applying to the comm. major this year for RD btw.

To me, 5 sounds pretty ridiculous in general. A 99.8% acceptance rate....haha, not buying it nyugirlandguy.

why does being a male help one's chances?

& what if standardize test scores were low but GPA, EC's, essay, and recs were up there? is it truly wholistic or does one outweigh the otehr for this particular major?

It depends on the given year as far as the competition goes, but in the past, the SAT scores were viewed as a cut-off. A male applicant to Communications may have an advantage, since most of the students in Communications are female.

I’m a comm major and I just got accepted. My college counselor told me Steinhardt is one of the more selective schools but I don’t know where that info came from. I also just got invited to the scholars program.
