I have gained admission into Stern as a scholar, and to Duke university. (also dartmouth NU and UVA but based on some financial need and general likings of school i have turned down these schools). I am wonderin what school i should pick if i want to do business. In terms of campus i loved duke university. Not saying I would not like the city, but i ahve never lived in the city and do not know wat its like. It could be fun it could be miserable. One of the most important things i am looking for is job placement and itnernships. I know both are great academically, now I am looking at the opportunities each school offers. I undertand NYU is in the city and gets more recruiters, but i also hear that the big big companies take fewer stern students as opposed to schools like duke or dartmouth (goldman sachs bein one of these types of companies). Please let me know if u have any advice for my situation.

"big big companies take fewer stern students as opposed to schools like duke or dartmouth" - that is not true. Stern also gets its share of big big companies. no other school(not even Harvard) makes more bankers than Stern. Stern is very strong in i-banking and recruitment is awesome. It is funny you bring up Goldman Sachs, it is one of the top recruiters at NYU. Whoever gave you the information is wrong, confirm it if you like from some other source. As for apprehensions of coming to the city, don't be afraid, it offers something for everyone. DIVERSITY. you don't want to remain a country bumpkin all your life. Overall, as I have said countless times, I would pick Stern. good lucK and let us know where you attend.

You should go to Stern. There's no contest. I would love to go to Stern. I'm applying ED next year. I hope I get to see you there in 2007.

honestly both are amazing schools and you will be fine at whichever one you choose so i guess it comes down to which enviroment you prefer, because NYC and north carolina are two very different locations. I think the main reason stern may have an edge over duke is because of internship oppurtunities. I'm sure if you apply to internships from duke you won't have trouble getting them, but i just can't imagine how many financial internships there are in north carolina! well thats my 2 cents, good luck with your decision!

I have seen some of your other posts. I think you will be a better fit at Stern. You're most concerned about job placement and internships in business. Stern is pretty much unmatched in that respect being next to Wall Street. I have 3 friends at Duke. Much of campus life revolves around basketball and frat parties, so if that's not really you, then NYU is a the better fit as there is seriously countless things to do in the city that never sleeps. Come to Stern, and we'll be fellow Scholars, lol.

since your username is already nystudent....then you must somewhat like the prospect of going to ny or being a stern student.

my vote goes to stern as well

Duke always has this air of a secret-handshaking beer can crushing environment. but thats just me.

NYU is all business

just on a sidenote, Duke,"ivy" of the South, has not been getting too much good publicity these days with the rape case against the lacrosse player

look. Its NC VS NYC.

if u do finance, there really is no competition.

big big companies take fewer stern students as opposed to schools like duke or dartmouth

well, what you mean is probably the acceptance rate into the companies. That might be true. A school like dartmouth might have 5 people applying for the same position, but NYU may have 100 applying for 15 positions.
