Does anyone else see a hidden rivalry (or animosity) between Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert? It seems as Colbert basically jumped on the same routine as Stewart (witty new anchor, comic political satirist). And now, Colbert may be seen as more popular and sucessful than Stewart.

Can anyone back me up here or understand where i'm coming from?

In most aspects, yes, but I've noticed much more media attention in more recent times for Stephen Colbert than has been true for Jon Stewart.

Personally, I'm in love with them both. And I'm fairly certain that their working relationship is meant to be mutually beneficial rather than fueled with animosity. But, I can see both sides of this being true. :)

It seems to me that Jon Stewart is a bit of a parody of a news anchor, while Colbert is playing the part of a pundit, maybe lampooning people such as Bill O'reilly (spelling?) or Ann Coulter.

Rolling Stone did an article on the two of them sometime last year, and they actually do get along, at least as far as the interview went. What happens on TV is them playing characters, with Stewart acting as the straight man to Colbert's braggadocio...

AFAIK, Jon's show has higher ratings. The nature of Stephen's show just leads to a more dedicated fanbase which can give the appearance of more popularity and success when it's not actually true.
