I want to know if I still have a shot of getting into McCombs.

I was recently admitted to my 2nd choice major (economics) and rejected from McCombs as an external transfer. Here were my credentials.

3.73 GPA from UH
3 internships from fortune 500 companies
lots of extra-curricular like community service and volunteering
OSHA certification
A+ Certification
A++ Certification
C++ Certification
And relatively good essays.

Yet I was rejected.

Would it be worth going into UT as a sophomore as a LA major? I run the risk of not getting into their business school via internal transfer and wasting **** loads of time since I would have to take freshmen level classes. What exactly do they look at it from internal transfers? Or would it be better to stay at UH and apply to McCombs again next year as an external with a 3.8+ GPA?

A lot of the classes from UT do not transfer over to UH so I'd be wasting time and money if i didn't get into McCombs, hence my dilemma. I am currently a semester ahead of everyone here at UH, I have 38 hours as a freshmen and will have 45 by the end of the summer. If I go to UT as a LA major ill basically go backwards in time with no guarantee of getting into McCombs.

What would yall say I would need to have to get into McCombs as an internal transfer GPA and extra-curricular wise and the same for an external transfer from UH? It would be a risk, but I'm trying to calculate my odds.

Thanks for the help, I've always been a diehard UT fan and its been my passion to go there since the days of Chris Simms vs Colorado.

I think if UT is really your passion, an McCombs is really your goal, then just work hard to earn a high gpa for internal transfer and there should be no problem as long as you work hard for it. The higher the gpa, the better. I heard on here than you can get in McCombs internally with a 3.6. So your chances are better as a UT student. I’m in the same situation… entering LA as an econ major, so that I can work hard to be a Mccombs student after 24 hours in residence.

Getting in externally is very difficult. If McCombs is what you feel you want most, then come to UT and transfer internally. If you have more than a 3.6 at UT, then you should be in good shape for admission. Your GPA will start over at UT. Externally, the average GPA is about a 3.9 with an acceptance rate of 17% so it shouldn’t be surprising that you didn’t make it. It is VERY competitive. Internally, it is much easier. 62% were accepted with an average GPA of 3.8. Better yet, they tend to stack applicants up by GPA and a 3.6 has been enough for the past few years to make the cut.

If you do come to UT and need to take macroeconomics, Norman give out about 50% A’s. He is a bizarre man but an A is very doable in there.

A lot depends on how confident you are in your ability to make good grades at UT. Personally, if I didn’t get into McCombs then I probably would have gone to UT anyway and try to transfer internally during my Sophomore year. I planned on using ratemyprofessors as well as take easy subjects in order to get good grades.

I think UT only cares about GPA’s to be honest. My friend got in with a 3.92. He had no volunteer hours, no work experience, no clubs, didn’t take any calculus, ect. Basically a pretty boring application. Yet he was admitted.

Its going to take a lot of work, but if your willing to do it then you should have no problem internally transfering.

The only course I need to take out of the 4 required is Cal II and I plan on taking it over the summer if I do enroll, I’m at the UH business program atm and in a pretty good position, but obviously McCombs would be much better.

Is the rigor of my schedule important at all or is it just about the GPA?

A lot of the classes needed for basic requirements I’ve already taken, I’d have to be taking these EASY classes that LA requires (just in case I dont get in McCombs). Like a General Culture Class (lol), another Social Science, 2 more Natrual Sciences along with a few easy basics I need to fill in like a UGS, Rhetorical Writing, and CMS 306.

Here are some of the classes I’m taking
Obviously I’m assuming that UT’s classes will be tougher then the ones at UH, so getting a high GPA will be more difficult

AST 309 … not showing for fall semester. Do you mean 309L? 309R? If just 309, then try Lacy (73). This is a professor who taught in the past. No idea about this fall since it isn’t listed on pickaprof

PSY 301 … try Bradbury (73) or Holahan (83).

UGS 303 … Angel (60) or Berg (76)

This is only if you wish to get the easiest courses. If you want to learn or take courses later which build on the material, I strongly suggest that you not take the easiest professors. I only post this to show that you can find some easy classes here and be sure to have your GPA high enough. Many people play this game. You can too.

Yeah, I got in with little/no ECs as well. UT only cares about GPA, mostly. If you want to risk it, you can stay at UH and try to bump up your GPA by taking some easy classes as well as Calc II and try to transfer in next year. If you dont get in, you can stay at UH no problem.
