Eeek, I still can't decide between Balch Hall and a co-ed dorm. I want a single because it's been recommended to me a lot, but idk about the other stuff. Balch has a lot of perks in that the rooms are bigger, have their own sinks, and are quiet if you want to study. I'm guessing it's a bit cleaner as well. But on the other hand, they seem to be less social and that could make it harder to make friends. A lot of less social people seem to pick Balch, excluding the ones who got placed there without requesting it. gah, only a few hours to decide....any suggestions?

Not sure if it’s over or not, but did you check out these two threads?

It’s a lot of posts, but your same exact situation comes up so many times in both threads, and I think it’s a pretty good thread for someone in your situation. Guessing you have already read it though lol :p, so I can’t really help with anything not posted on those two threads.

Hope you end up in the right dorm!

haha, yea i’ve read those…I guess I just have to make a decision and go with it.

what did you decide?

idk, I’m having issues mostly because it looks like people make a lot of their friends freshman year, through the dorms. And I definetly want to have female friends, but I usually have an equal number of each gender. I hope that balance wouldn’t get messed up if I go to Balch. Did you decide?

And idk if this has any bearance, but my mom know’s some people who went to Cornell and didn’t choose Balch and later regretted it for various reasons. Either they thought the girls were nicer there, or it was cleaner, etc.

I chose Balch because of the size of the rooms, cleanliness, proximity to central campus, quiet (for studying and sleeping), and because I prefer a single room. Most of your socializing will be out on campus and not just in your dorm, anyway, so I think that if you make the effort to be outgoing and to meet people, making friends shouldn’t be too big of an issue. Also, I’ve heard that girls in Balch tend to form really close friendships. :)

hooray, i look foward to meeting you in balch next year lol

you too! :D

i picked balch :)

yay! :] We’re going to have an awesome dorm.

haha yeah! hopefully :)

haha, yea, I think I’ll go with it too. We can always do stuff on campus and, especially after a month or so, it’ll feel nice to come to a quieter dorm and relax. Plus, you won’t have to go all the way to a library to study, which is good because I oddly find it harder to study in one, lol. Can’t wait to meet all of you!

yay, hi =D

Yay Balch! There’s a Facebook Group for future Balch gals if you’d like to join. It’s a little quiet now but I’d love to pre-meet all my potential future friends (:

Balch is pretty big btw…I mean there are lots of people I know from class who live here but they don’t live right near me so I can hardly tell we’re in the same dorm.
