Once a KP mid signs an Agreement to go to one of the services, do they get a stipend? Heard an AF one is receiving $$$/month. True of all branches?

I was told (by football coach) that mids get paid when they go to sea. They do NOT get a stipend when they are in classes. (If he's getting paid, he's not telling me! I want my credit card back!)

Maybe some of those w closer ties to USNA/USAFA can confirm this. During my S interview w BGO he stated that the stipend covers a lot of things like books and uniforms and that by the way a full set of uniforms will cost about $16K over the four year period - and you do not use them after you leave the academy. USNA now has a $2500 entrance fee which covers some initial costs like a computer. They also pay for barbershop, tailor and laundry fees. At the USAFA they call the stipend “magic money” because the heavy costs of uniforms and computer are taken out that first year leaving almost nothing in terms of monthly spending money.

Now I am thinking what my S has not paid for at the USMMA – hhmmm did he receive a bill for his uniforms or books? Nope.

We do not get paid while at school. However, while at sea we do receive pay on a monthly rate that is equal to the monthly stipend at the other service Academies. (keep an eye out for the ships that offer overtime though, that's where the real money is)
