I know that all of the other Service Academies pay full tuition. But does The MMA? Also does anyone know what other services one can join after graduation other than the Navy? Thank you.

JTRW:

Welcome to the website. Definately read the website linked above, and spend some time roaming the USMMA website. You'll find most of the answers to things you may want to know on that site. To answer your questions above, yes USMMA pays all of your tuition. There are some student fees that are required to be paid, but I think it adds up to like 5,000 total over the entire four years. You can join any of the services out of USMMA, including NOAA if you so desire.

Welcome JT!! I wanted to help too!

Plebe Class (Freshman) 2009 $6,570.00 (due to computer purchase mostly)
3rd Class (Sophomore) 2008 $2,433.00
2nd Class (Junior) 2007 $1,863.00
1st Class (Senior) 2006 $3,351.00

They also offer financial aid to the student for these costs as well. The Academy offers the kids a choice of any branch upon graduation. It can be Reserves or Active duty. And the very cool thing, NOAA or commissioning directly to Intel. The choices are more varied than any other academy. The kids are now in the Naval Reserves/Merchant Marine Reserves while attending the academy. You should take a look at it. And do do do look up Sea Year. If anyone sees I'm that incorrect on anything, please correct!... :)

A couple of other things about costs. You will hear that at the other academies you get a stipend each month, but from that stipend you have to buy uniforms and other stuff. While ther is not a stipend at KP your uniforms are furnished and you will get paid while you at sea during your sea year, so that is a wash.

Thank you everyone. It has been very helpful. I assume all of you know people or have gone to the Academy. I was wondering what are the most important factors in the application process. What weighs more for the Academy? GPA? SAT scores? Personal merits?

JTRW: All of your stats are important, but most importantly you must be a "well rounded" person. I'm sure you have heard that, but you can have the best grades and not be accepted if you aren't involved in other activities. The best advice I can give is to do well in school, do well on your SAT's, and show leadership potential. The best way to show leadership potential is to seek and obtain leadership positions in your school and community. Join a few clubs at school and become active in them and run for office. Don't just join a club to put it on your application, they will see straight through that plan.

Sorry that I can't be more specific here, but it's tough to pinpoint the exact route to any school. If I could do that I'd be a millionaire :)
