We will be visiting a day in the summer but wanted to get some insight into the school. We are from NJ and my daughter could possibly get recruited. She is interested in business
Well regarded business program, especially in accounting. Punches above its weight in the New England corporate community, not as well known (or known at all) outside the region.
Small, suburban Catholic college. We live in in MA and I can’t say I really ever heard anything about Stonehill during my kids admissions cycles. Very under the radar at our public school so I can’t offer much.
I do have a friend with two sons, now in their mid 20’s, who both graduated from Stonehill. Finance or business majors, I believe. Older son is successful in sales. Younger son is a financial analyst. Both live and work in surburban Boston. The family is very excited that Stonehill just went D1 (not sure which sport). They are not athletes, but they are sports fanatics.
I recall that the the younger son was active in Stonehill’s investment club and Young Republicans on campus. He had a good internship the summer after junior year and had no problem finding a job when he graduated, or a second job when he was ready. He was also recently admitted into the part time MBA program at BC, though he decided against grad school and did not attend.
Is it very religious. We visited St. Joe’s in Philadelphia and they had a lot religious requirements and turned my daughter off very quickly
I would check the core curriculum requirements (I expect they are online) for Stonehill before you visit - they may be similar.
The only kids I know who went there were graduates of Catholic HS’s… so I can’t tell how comfortable someone else might be there…
Are you specifically looking for a secular institution? Those are easy to find… it’s harder to find a religious institution which is “only” moderately religious! So perhaps have your D create a list of “acceptable/not acceptable” and then figure out where Stonehill lands?
Good idea to check the religious requirements first to see if they would be a turn off or not.
The Stonehill graduates that I posted about went to public high school. They were raised Catholic but the family now attends church just for holidays, weddings, etc.
Strong in sciences. I know many kids there. One hated it and transferred out. Had 5 roommates; thought all were rich and spoiled. All the others seemed to enjoy it. Most were Catholic school grads but not all. Strong merit aid.
