Stony Brook or Baruch for Business?

What do you think is better?

Baruch is better academically but it’s a purely commuter college. Stony Brook will be a better experience.

Just a technicality, in case it matters to anyone: Stony Brook is SUNY, not CUNY. It’s about 90 minutes east of the city, in the suburbs of Long Island.

Baruch hands down. Stony brook isn’t accredited in business or accounting, but Baruch is.

If you want a good SUNY for business, obviously apply to Albany, Binghamton, and Geneseo.
Baruch is good for business but only if you commute from home. Don’t expect to have campus life, make friends like in a dorm and on ça the way is common at a college, etc.

As noted above, Baruch is a commuter school. It is also one of the best schools around for business and accounting. If your budget doesn’t permit a residential school, you can’t go wrong with it. Also, as someone who attended a commuter CUNY, I had a social life in school, it was just mostly off campus. I met people in classes, the cafeteria and the library and we just made plans and hung out in the real world instead of on campus.

Stony Brook is not the best school for accounting.

Right. Baruch has a great rep for business, Stony Brook is more STEM oriented. Baruch is more of an urban, commuter campus, StonyBrook is a residential campus in the 'burbs, a good hour out of NYC.

But there’s sure to be a SUNY that meets your needs.

When I was at Stony Brook in the 80s, there was no business school, or major. I can’t think it would be very good.

For a NYC area kid who wants business, I don’t think there’s a better deal than Baruch, but only if you can commute. Having to live on your own in the city at 18 would be costly and quite difficult. That’s why AACSB accredited SUNYs would be better for a student who wants/needs to dorm. (And for high stats kids there’s Fordham but we’re not talking the same price range as SUNY/CUNY even with merit).
