I was accepted to Binghamton and University at Buffalo. I rcvd a provost scholarship for UB. Stony brook sent me an application for the LSAMP STEM scholarship program. I applied to Stony brook during the first week of January 2015. The email to apply for a scholarship was sent to me by Stony brook, the very end of February 2015, only two weeks before the deadline date to submit for this particular scholarship program. Everything has been submitted but I did not think Stony brook notifications for new students took this long. Should I call admissions? or continue to wait patiently? My weighted gpa is 93 , sat 1770, Act 29- Math Act 32 Math SAT 670, AP Classes in Physics and other APs, & Honors College Calculus & H College English classes taken in H.S. Great recommendation letters. Strong extra curricular activities. Scores on state regents high 90’s. Did not schedule a visit yet, since I have heard nothing so far. It is my first choice. Open to all advice…
Is your question about admission or a scholarship? Either way – contact us at enroll@stonybrook.edu and we’ll check it out.

I will. My question was about acceptance letter notifications. So far haven’t seen anything on my solar account. My mother is leaning towards University at Buffalo because of the financial aid and scholarship. I want to go where I will be more academically challenged. It is a little disconcerting. I am trying not to be cliche but Stony Brook is my first choice.
Chris, the admissions office emailed back the same thing that’s said on college confidential. They advised to check my solar account for updates. It’s March 20th today. I just got a letter of acceptance to Syracuse U with a 6,000 per year Deans Scholarship. Binghamton, UB and now Syracuse have accepted me but are not my first choice. After careful research I truly want to attend Stony Brook. Do I have to wait until March 31st to know something ?
Does StonyBrook know that you will accept their offer if given one?Have you told them it is your first choice?
@lostaccount…I just got the new student tab on my solar account for SBU. After reading a few posts, it means that an acceptance email is soon to follow. SBU is my first choice. University at Buffalo is the second choice.
@lostaccount… SBU asked that I write a separate essay to apply for S.T.E.M. L.S.A.M.P. scholarship program. I did that about two weeks ago. They sent that particular email to me around the 1st week of March about two months after applying for fall admissions. FYI, I made it clear. Stony Brook’s curriculum along with the fellow student body, I feel will be more academically challenging. UB, BU, SU, sent acceptance letters but nothing compares to SBU. I am relieved. thx.
@EngineerMajor did you write or email SBU admissions expressing your interest?
@thewaitisreal I applied thru the common app on Jan 12th. They sent me an email that my H.S, records were received Jan 29th. The last week of February, I got an email asking to apply for the STEM scholarship program. I faxed over the application they had emailed along with the required paperwork. Then nothing. I followed Kris in admissions from Stonybrook advice and emailed the admissions office. He posts on here a lot. They emailed me back to continue to check my solar account & they were still processing, “and to be patient”. Did not state what to look for. But in 3 days it changed to the New Student tab on Solar. So I am waiting for a few more days for it to update fully. College confidential threads were really helpful in gauging my anxiety over not seeing or hearing anything.
I believe most scholarship decisions are officially out at this point. Full packages will be out by today or Monday. HOWEVER – I got the sense in the staff meeting this morning that the department scholarships are just waiting for final approval, and that would include the engineering scholarships. So it’s likely that those will go out this week.
I apologize for the runaround.
Chris
@sbuadmissions when does financial aid info come out?
Today, I’m told.
@sbuadmissions My solar account still says I haven’t been offered a financial aid package
@sbuadmissions My financial aid package was posted on Solar for Pell & Tap. SBU financial aid office told me today that departmental scholarship awards for example : Engineering dept. is still being decided/worked on. Do you know when those notifications will actually go out? Thanks again Kris.
@sbuadmissions I called the financial aid office today and they said that the decisions still are not out. The scholarship awards for engineering students have not been sent. Terese in the office said she would call my mother by tomorrow with an update. My mother has said repeatedly that it will effect where I end up going.
Went to admitted students day and it was great. Also received 2,500 a year for 4 years thru STEM scholarship program There is so much of a support networking system at Stony. The lecture halls are amazing. Ready to put in the work !
