also restaurants, please since I am from the east coast.

maps.google.com and yelp.com

These are things you can research on your own.

Best buy and Ralphs grocery store are across the street from the south side of campus. The closest BB&B is on Olympic in WLA at Bundy – Blue Bus with transfer down Westwood to Olympic; Olympic west to Bundy or Barrington – actually there may be a bus stop at the BB&B driveway light. Trader Joe’s nearly across the street.

Target, Ross, etc. all in Culver City on Jefferson – will need to take the Culver City bus to get there.

There’s a Ross opening up on Westwood where Border’s used to be, and there already was one on Westwood between Santa Monica and Massachusetts, though it might be closing if they’re opening a new one so close by.

Best Buy, Ralphs Supermarket, Trader Joe’s Supermarket, Ride Aid Pharmacy, CVS Pharmacy (these stores are in the same area, near BoA) are in walking distance from UCLA campus. You may want to apply Raplhs and CVS discount cards so you can save some money when you made purchases there. There is Whole Food Supermarket in another area and near the campus. CVS had some closet organizers in good deal when I visted the campus last time, 2-3 weeks ago.

As for restaurants, In-and-Out, Burger King, some sushi place, korean BBQ, Yamato Japaness restaurant…don’t worry about getting food outside the campus.

Knowing people with cars is convenient, but most of the important places you can visit

(Santa Monica, Venice Beach,The Grove, Rodeo Drive, LACMA, The Getty, Getty Villa, Ktown (AYCE KBBQ!), Mitsuwa Market, West side Pavilion, Century City, West Hollywood, Hollywood Sign, Grauman Chinese Theater(where all the stars on the floor are), and even downtown LA w/the Disney concert hall and Jtown)

are possible by bus. The buses you are looking at are using the Santa Monica Blue Bus (35-50 cents for students…they keep raising rates :/) and the Orange Metro/Metro Rapid (1.25). I actually visited everywhere I listed above except the Getty Villa by bus my freshman year so its definitely possible to visit everything (and more) if you feel adventurous

I don’t know your food preferences so check out yelp. Generally, I recommend Bella Pita, Gushi, In n Out, Fat Sals (sometimes), La monica pizza, Persian food, Indian food, Yogurt Land, and Diddy Reese in Westwood. Westwood sushi is college student quality, so stay away if you can. Check out Sawtelle by blue bus and you can find Volcano tea for boba and Sushi stop for better quality and still affordable sushi.

Anyway, I hope that helped!

@Heaven – Thanks – forgot about the Ross on Westwood (bike, No. 1, No. 8 & No. 12 blue bus all go past) – glad they’re moving to the old Borders – closer to campus and maybe better (bigger) than the one at Westwood & Mass.

As for restaurants – high or low end or medium priced? UCLA parent gave you all the fast food except the long-time staples – the Falafel take out place that’s been there since I went to UCLA and Stan’s Donuts, which has been there before I was born!

Depends on your age and tastes, but the Village has a little of everything for everyone.

The old hangouts: Acapulco on Glendon, Cafe Elysee, Falafel King, Fatburger, LaMonica’s NY Pizza, Napa Valley Grill, Penguins Yogurt, 31 Flavors (Baskin Robbins), Headliners, Jerrys Famous Deli (quite awful), and BJ’s, a UCLA student favorite.

Last 10 - 15 years: Westwood Brewing Co. (decent burgers, good sports bar), Palamino (upscale bar and restaurant – imo best in the bar area for drinks and decent appetizers – make killer girlie vodka martini style drinks and mojitos), California Pizza Kitchen (decent food at decent prices for all ages – if ordering their signature bbq chicken pizza, always ask that they put on it “extra sauce”), Habibi Cafe and Gypsy Cafe (across the street from each other, trying to compete for the water pipe experience), Diddy Riese cookies (just stand in the long line. You’ll “get it”).

Newbies: Barneys Beanery (great to watch away games close to campus, need to be 21 after 7 p.m. unless with someone who looks like your parent, but THE place for UCLA students over 21), The Glendon – nice long happy hours, great sliders, decent drinks, and O’Hara’s, around the corner from CPK – it’s a newbie dive/sports bar, but only in name. It was previously Maloney’s, Shakey’s, whatever. Actually, they have these $1.00 long happy hour super thin crust pizza’s worth every cent.
