I'm kinda in a weird situation. I was accepted at Yale and Stanford, and just yesterday the acceptance postcard was sent to Yale. Yet, I actually want to go to Stanford. Is there a way I can take back the acceptance, or am I basically screwed?

You can certainly back out, although you may lose your deposit.

But make sure it's really what you want to do. Why'd you change your mind? Are you sure you're not just getting cold feet? Is it cause you're at Stanford's admit day? I went to college at Yale (am now at Stanford for grad school) and believe very strongly that Yale's is the best undergrad experience in the county. Drop me an email if you want to here more.

You want to go to Stanford over Yale? Eww. :p

In all seriousness, though, I would call the schools to see. I wouldn't try something without talking to the people at Admissions.

As long as its before May 2nd you can change your mind as to which college you wish to enroll at. Just call up the Yale Admissions office and tell them what has happened. You might even be able to recover your deposit as it is unlikely that they would have cashed the check in such a short period of time.

wait, we had to send in a deposit with our yale acceptance postcard?

Instructions for Admitted Students clearly mentions that no deposit is required

ok phew, for a second there i was pretty worried
