Stressed and Need Help

Hi, I am stressing about college and what colleges I can get into right now.

My first year of high school was hard for me because I got sick and was diagnosed with a stomach ailment. It was also very difficult for me to switch from middle school to high school. I got a 2.7 GPA. Last year, I got a 3.4 GPA. I am a minority from a country where many people do not come from (if that matters).

I have a 3.205 GPA, I am a junior in HS, I have my own non-profit, I am also a member of 3 clubs in my school and am about to start something at my school. This year I am in 4 AP’s, and 2 honors classes. I know and have planned to get about a 3.7 GPA. We are also allowed to take classes outside of our school and I am planning on taking online business classes, which also go on your transcript and bring your GPA up.

What are my chances of getting into:

Miami University, UCLA, Pepperdine, UCSB, UCSD, Boston College, Boston University, NYU, University of Penn, Indiana Univ-Bloomington, Georgetown, George Washington, Northeastern, and Cornell.

  1. How much can you afford/year? If you are in need of financial aid, cross off UCLA/UCSB and UCSD since you will not get any FA.

  2. You need to calculate your UC GPA for the California UC’s and they do not use 9th grades in their calculation. Upward grade trend is good but you need to wait until the end of Junior year to have a better understanding of your chances. You want to target UC GPA of 4.0+ to have a chance at these UC’s.

  1. Have you taken the PSAT/SAT and/or ACT? Your college acceptances are just no dependent upon GPA but your test scores, EC’s, Essays and Letters of Recommendations for most of these schools.

  2. What is your intended major? How many AP’s completed by the time you apply? How did you do in the AP classes and on the exams?

Come back when you have your test scores, your GPA at the end of Junior year and then you can be chanced. Just work hard and get the GPA up.

Thank you gumbymom. I will come back when I have those.
