Strongest ARts Majors

Im interested in Econ, Poli sci and Intl. Development. are these strong/particularly popular majors at mcgill?

also how hard is it to graduate with honors like cum laude?

these are all very strong, very competitive, and very popular majors at work. in order to graduate with honors prepare to work hard and long, and take it day by day.

for cum laude, what does your gpa how to be?? in general, how does graduating with honors work?

look it up on the mcgill website or course catalog, it differs for every program as to what they require, but I know for many they want a 3.7 cGPA, 3.5 = Great Distinction, 3.3 = Distinction, top 10% = high honors. but confirm with your program of choice in the calendar.

thanks very much!

As far as econ goes I always hear mixed reviews. I’ve heard that if you do econ honors they generally place well and that honors econ is also very rigorous and math heavy. Classes are large. Many of my friends complain that the department is really not all that amazing in their fields (this is only what my friends have told me).

The only big complaint I hear on occasion is that if you want to study economics to get a broad understanding of different economic systems, McGill is a bad place to be. Basically if you are anti-capitalism, you probably will not enjoy McGill’s program at all.

I don’t really hear much about poli sci, and IDS I generally hear differing reviews.

As for strongest departments in arts, Linguistics, Psych, Religious Studies (with focus on Christianity at least), and philosophy are amongst the best ones from what I hear. Psych classes are huge though.
