Hi,
I was hoping to get some input on College vets and newcomers on the nature of forming teams for group projects. I am in my early thirties, I recently started attending College and I’m in my second semester.
I have a certain apprehension when it comes to forming teams for assignments. I am scared to ask people if they want to pair up. I usually stand up and wait for people to come to me. I’ve noticed that some people I would like to work with make eye contact with me, but I usually look down after a few seconds. Is it protocol to look at someone you hope to be working with until someone makes the first move? My main fear is rejection, I know I shouldn’t be taking it personally but I usually feel not cool enough to work with the brightest students, and most of the time I keep to myself before class starts. I do have a good friend with whom I chat to kill time, and my other issue is that there is someone I hate working with who’s a tyrant and I end up in his group some of the time because we are the misfits of the class, and the experience is usually highly frustrating.
Any tips besides making the first move. This eye contact thing is puzzling me, it feels like it should be how things happen. I figured if you don’t want to work with somebody you wouldn’t look at him when comes time to form teams.
