Hi,
One of my clubs have started the student council position activities. I don't know what to run for, secretary or vice president. If I run for secretary I will most likely win. However, if I run for Vice President I will be competing against a really popular person so I won't have a good chance. I would like your advice on what to do

To be honest student council positions aren’t really THAT important in the grand scheme of your things. Colleges understand that student government elections are usually popularity contests and student councils don’t do much more than plan Prom and some fundraisers -of course this is the norm and i apologize if your student government is more proactive than most.
If you really want to be on student government just run for secretary.

I agree, and do a good job!

What do you agree to?

Just run for secretary.

What difference does it make? If you absolutely want to be an officer, then run for secretary.

Is there some reason why VP would be preferable to you?

In the vast reading that I have done on the topic, it seems like the only school leadership positions that really grab the eye of adcoms are Student Council president, newspaper editor and sports team captain. Secretary vs VP will mean nothing. Yes, we all know that Student Council is a popularity contest and that officers usually do very little of substance, but colleges like popular kids…to paraphrase an adcom on the subject “this student is student council president which tells us that he is highly regarded by his peers.”

I’m running for VP by the way

Just curious…what made you decide to run for VP?
