Students taking A level in November

bump;......

Someone(waleedk),please answer my questions.
I will give you candy.

CIE will post the date very soon under the "Qualifications and Diplomas" section. But last year the May/June results came out on the 8th and this year it was the 7th ... and 2 years ago it was the 9th .. so i think the same pattern will follow and the results will be out on the 25th of January

Did anyone do subjects like History, English Lit, or Eng Language?

Actaully, no ! people here tend to be science specific or commerce specific(Economics,Buisness,Accounts).

i had history in my IGCSE - the subject i gained most from!
and, atleast in pakistan, A LOT of students take english language, sociology, psychology etc ..

Why is that students who take A-levels in the US don't take subjects like History, Phychology, English Lit, or English Language etc.?

well basically because most international students want to major in science and engineering. Intels who do science subjects have a bigger niche in the US

secondly, because SAT II's arent offered in these subjects (except lit and history is very differet), it makes more sense to do your a-levels in sciences.

Thirdly, many students apply to their home countries as safeties and they require specialised study. For engineering u need math physics chemistry and for medicine u NEED bio chem phy etcc
but there are many people who DO take these subjects.. its just that the majority doesnt. A levels are TOO specialised any way

I like specializtion that the A-levels offer. Although, I have never taken any A-levels since I am American and live on the west coast.

A-lvls is much more specialised, and almost equivalent to freshman coursework in the states, the breadth and depth in A-lvls is a good thing to let students decide what they really want to do, due to the rigourousness of the syllabus, students tend to understand what they are good in and what they are not, apparently many graduates from the states are not working in the field they studied in undergrad... : )
