I would really like to study abroad, but I am confused as to how the cost works. I will be attending Rutgers University this fall, and I have been researching study abroad options. It turns out that Rutgers has it's own study abroad program, it does not appear to go through another school or third party program. So, is the tuition for study abroad added on top of Rutgers regular tuition or do i just pay the tuition for the study abroad program that semester. For example, let's say I want to go to Florence Italy for one semester. It costs roughly 10,000 dollars. Rutgers tuition costs (9,000 with no dorm for a year), and (20,000 with dorm for a year). Would I pay the 9,000 plus the 10,000 or just the 10,000?

Hey! I actually just got back from the Rutgers Florence program a few days ago. You pay the 10,000, without anything on top. Be warned that that does not include housing or food, though. Housings around $3000. And living expenses aren't cheap, especially with the rising value of the euro.

Some programs do include housing and food, such as the Spain program, which I'm currently on. It is reflected in the price though. While living in Europe right now is considerably expensive, also keep in mind that your financial aid and scholarships apply to semesters abroad; you pay for your study abroad just as you would for a regular semester at Rutgers. Scholarships specifically for study abroad are available as well. I wouldn't rule out study abroad for financial reasons; it's an amazing experience, and if need be you can take out loans.
