Stuff for dorm

My dad picked up some stuff the other day and I'm wondering if I have something that might already be at my dorm hall.

-clothing iron
-toaster
-fan
-floor lamp

I'm staying in Donlon Hall if that matters.

There should be a communal iron for you to use, as well as a toaster in the communal kitchen (I’m not sure that you’re even allowed to have a toaster in your room). You definitely want to bring a fan, and floor lamps are good too as long as they fit the right standards (ex. no spiders lamps).

My D said she didn’t need an iron because they had them in the laundry room in Balch, which indeed they did. However because they either didn’t get hot enough, or the ones that did get hot had so much crap on them, she ended up having us go buy her an iron when we came up for parents weekend. So my recommendation would be to bring it if you like to iron clothes.

Definately don’t think you can have the toaster in the room. Pretty much anything that might start a fire is not allowed in your room.

Don’t forget to communicate with your roommate(s) about what you are going to bring to avoid having two or more of the same things.

Donlon indeed has irons at the laundry room, and as others said, toaster wouldn’t be allowed in the room, but you can certainly put it at kitchen with a note that others might use it as well. Everything that is placed in the kitchen is highly likely going to be used by others. It’s something that you need to be aware of esp. if you don’t like sharing stuff with others.

So there is one kitchen on the whole dorm or what? I’ve heard about kitchens, but I’m not exactly sure how they work or where they would be located. I need a general idea of how the rooms and such are. Also, should I loft? Is it really worth the space?

Usually in a dorm they would have a kitchen per floor/unit. So, I’d expect that from Donlon as well (don’t know if they have more than 1 per floor though considering how many people are in Donlon).

I think you would be fine without lofting. I don’t know how much stuff you need, so can’t tell you if you would need the space. Check: [Housing - Mary Donlon Hall](<a href=“Residential Life | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University”>Residential Life | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University) for more info on the room.

you really don’t need a toaster. I thought I would make a lot of meals in my room since I’m a really picky eater, but between the dining halls and quick places to grab food I never really did. I don’t think I knew people who kept much food in their rooms beyond just basic cereal and snacks.
