What do people usually do if they don't go home for Thanksgiving >_<? Will the dining commons be opened?

I heard it’s dead quiet for Thanksgiving and the dining commons are closed…so I’m going to head for Oakland for some Korean BBQ (and hope they’re open for a Thanksgiving lunch/b-day celebration at least ;-; ) or Chinatown…

Dining Commons will be closed and it really is quite dead…I’d suggest going home with a friend who lives in the area or at least getting together with a couple of other people for company?

Black Friday baby. Whilst people are feasting, I’m camping out.

Even the homeless are not there. They must be at home.

lol ^ so true. Except for the one Dave Chappelle sounding guy. I haven’t seen him in a while though. :\ It is pretty dead, except for the few families walking around campus. And then I feel bad because I’m here alone. But then I stop feeling bad, and feel awesome instead.

Because I’m Batman.

Sigh this makes me want to go home… but evil plan tickets are so overpriced!!!

hitch a ride

So the dorms are open at Thanksgiving but not during Winter Break? How do they “close off” the dorms, make everyone turn in their keys?

Change the locks…

I stayed here over Thanksgiving 2 years ago. Bad mistake.

Don’t do it (unless you’re a fan of loneliness and depression).

@LemonCat: The RA will check every room if you’re still in the dorms or not during winter break. Part of the rule is you must close all electricity and leave your fridge open.

I guess if you really need to stay in the dorms during winter break, I dare you to try it, although you will suffer from absolute loneliness.

you are not allowed to stay in the dorms during winterbreak
thanksgiving and spring break - you can

I will prolly be in Berkeley during Thanksgiving … sniff

plane tix are ridiculously expensive and for what, just to go home for 3 days ?

especially when we have finals beginning literally as soon as we come back from thanksgiving?

from what I remember, they master lock the front doors of the entrance to the dorms… and they might be turning off all the electricity and stuff since no one’s ‘supposed’ to be there for a month

I stayed over thanksgiving during thanksgiving and it wasn’t as awful as people made them out to me. For me, airplane tickets were to expensive for me to go home for three days. During the break, all of the dinning commons will be closed. I suggest just buy a box of cereal for breakfast during break and eat out for lunch/dinner.

At the dorm, they actually held a thanksgiving dinner for those who stayed over, it was really fun and yay for free food right. Some of my floormates (like four of them) also stayed over break, so we decided to pitch it and made our own little asian thanksgiving dinner.

For the remaining of the break, I didn’t do much. mostly just relax and catch up on shows. Anou d ycan definitely get ahead by studying early for your finals or starting on your paper. Take advantages of your alone time, the three extra days will be over before you know it.

Oh, and if you are religious, there may be certain gathering that happens during over thanksgiving. I am not really associated with an religion group on campus, but i think some of the christian group might have something planned.

Good luck with everything!

So many mixed responses lol. Worst is I’ll just be alone for 2 days and by the weekends, people should start coming back >_<!

Is winter break 1 month or 3 weeks? The website says 3… but everyone is insisting that it’s a whole month!

not going back

@MisterB7K, its 1 month since the last of instruction for the fall semester is on Dec 16 and as for the spring semester, instruction begins on Jan 17.

Officially 3. But instruction begins a week later. So 4. Thanksgiving really isn’t that bad. It’s only an extended long weekend. For me, I miss these traditions I have with my club team so that kinda sucks. But as someone pointed out…you come back and two weeks later, you enter finals week.

Really interesting, I didn’t realize that 2 weeks after, finals would happen. I guess it’s not too bad staying… I’ll just make sure to prepare better plans for next year Thanksgiving haha!

@Scooby, thanks for the clarification… I am so excited now that we have 1 month, yeah ^_^!

Make sure to walk around the campus (especially Sproul Hall) where autumn leaves are flying everywhere and you cannot see a single person around.
It is a very different aspect of Berkeley because thousands of students would walk on the same place just few days ago… It feels like the human race has been exterminated and you are the only survivor.
