Yes.

It shows you can excel in three different areas and it “confirms” the rigor of your high school curriculum. The exception to this would be taking a language test as a native speaker and 800ing it, which proves nothing.

if im not applying to harvard princeton or georgetown -> i only need two subject tests, do you think spanish and chem is a good combo? i could take math 2 if i had to.

I am sure that you do not need to have an 800 Math 2 to be competitive with the top schools even if you are looking to go into engineering/math/physics/computer science/those sorts of things. Even look on some of the decisions threads here for HYPMS; not everyone that was admitted had 800 Math 2. And I think you really cannot go by percentiles for the Math 2; they really don’t tell you anything.

for top schools that only need two subject tests, such as Columbia, do they allow you to submit three? and would that be more impressive in any way?

so for ivies and lac, don’t send unless 700+?

SAT IIs don’t matter too much. Of course it is better to score high, but a girl from my school is going to Harvard next year (and was accepted into Princeton and Yale) and she only got a 690 on Math I, 730 on U.S History, and 790 on Biology. If you have a high gpa and goods ECs then schools could look past lower SAT II grades.

I’ve taken two already: Math II and U.S. History (scores come in this month)

and I’m debating on what to take as my third; can someone help me please?? :)

French, never took a class but can self-study… I’m getting less and less confident about this now though since a bunch of people who’ve taken French for like years complain about the difficulty…

Spanish, which I speak fluently and have taken 4 years of, including AP. But I’m Hispanic, so I don’t think that that’ll prove anything… plus I got a 5 on the AP… it just seems redundant to take the SAT II too (even though I took APUSH also, but anyway…)

Literature, seems like a generic one to take… probably that one… "/

Physics? - I took Honors sophomore year (I’m a rising senior) and I’ll be taking AP Phys C next yr, but I prob. won’t have enough preparation… but it depends (I also wonder if it looks good to have a science, or does it matter?)

Thanks in advance :D

Physics C and the SAT are different I heard. I think Physics B would be more of a match just b/c C is just electricity and mechanics. I’d go with Literature, and take not recommend self-studying a language. Why don’t you take something like World History or Bio? Those are quite doable.

2400 on three subject tests in worlds easier than a perfect score on SAT I. A perfect score on reasoning means basically no mistakes whatsoever, barring 2 or 3 mistakes on a more generous curve. If you’re good at math, 800 on Math II isn’t too difficult. Same with US history since both have generous curves. Then if you’re also in an AP science class then Bio and chem are also easier compared to AP tests.
