Subject Testing

I will be applying ED to the school of arts and sciences which “recommends” two subject tests. I received an 800 on one but upper 600’s on the other two from my sitting in October. Would it be better to send the one score and just ignore their policy of sending two and hope it doesn’t effect anything. I think it would look fishy because they would obviously see you did worse on the others. What would you guys recommend, send one and pray or risk it and take them at their word of “recommended”.

That one. Take them at their word since at the end of the day, it is what it is.

I am a believer in sending either zero or two (or more than 2 depending), Submitting one, in my mind, looks as though the applicant is trying to hide a score (which, let’s be honest, is what you would be trying to do) since nobody (OK maybe a very small percentage) takes just one Subject Test.

@pennapplicant01 Ideally you would want to have two subject tests with great scores. Sending 2 with one score being mediocre, or sending just 1 or 0 will hurt you compared to sending 2 great scores. make no mistake subject tests are not really recommended for most applicants. They are only truly optional for kids from very underprivileged backgrounds.

Now between sending just the good score or sending both, i would agree with above, you should send both. Sending just 1 will make the admissions office think that you either did abysmally on the other one or that you didn’t even bother taking it. Upper 600s is definitely not ideal for a school like Penn but it is also not abysmal.
