Dartmouth is my number one school right now, but Im not sure about my stats. I have a 1530 on the SAT which I think is pretty good, but my 770 on Math 2 seems kind of suspect, considering all of my friends have 800s and I’ve heard it’s very easy to get an 800 on that test considering the curve. Is this considered a “bad” score in the eyes of these top schools? Am I in range? I plan to take the Lit subject test soon in June as well, but I’m not too confident I can get a great score on that one either. Does it seem like I’m on track from a stats point of view?
You are in range and your Math 2 score is higher than my daughters (750) who got in.
No. Only on College Confidential would someone think that a 770 is an unacceptable score. You’re fine.
It is important to understand that for several subjects, the percentiles are depressed because so few colleges request Subject Tests, that the ones that do are the ultra selective ones. As a result, it is the high achieving kids taking the tests. No AO is sitting on the floor cross-referencing scores with percentiles.
The students that take a particular subject test are very self-selecting; if you thing the M2 percentiles are depressed, look at Chinese and Korean.
Your math 2 score and your SAT are good. I think that as long as you get a 4.1 weighted GPA or higher, you stand a good chance. Make sure to write a good essay and have strong extra-curricular activities.
I got accepted to Dartmouth RD with an 800 on Math II and a 670 on Literature. The scores don’t matter as much as long as you demonstrate other great qualities. A 770 on Math II is a great score
