I have taken the ACT, SAT, and SAT IIs but I only want to submit my ACT and SAT IIs. Is this possible?

Yes and no:

When ordering official scores from the testing agencies, ACT sends only the particular test ordered (and charges you separately to send another) and SAT sends all scores it has, SAT and SAT IIs, unless you exercise score choice (which you do by unchecking a test when ordering a send).

Despite the above, many high schools put all your scores on your official high school transcript that is sent to colleges, so you should check with your high school to determine whether that occurs.

Many colleges require you to send “all scores.” However, what that means varies among the colleges that have an all scores requirement. Some require all SAT scores but not all other scores. Some want all SAT and ACT scorees. Some want all SAT and SAT II scores if you sending any SAT or SAT II but alternatively you can just send all ACT scores. Some really mean “all scores,” meaning all SATs, SAT IIs, and ACTs. So you need to check with each college what its rules are.

You should also check for what they actually consider. For example, majority of colleges neither want nor consider SAT II scores. However, most high ranks do. Nevertheless, some schools like Yale, Penn and Brown, consider the ACT in lieu of both the SAT and SAT IIs. If you send the ACT and SAT IIs and no SATs, those IIs will be deeped six and not considered at all for admission at those because the IIs are considered part of the SAT side of the package and the ACT is considered by itself.

Thanks for answering my question very thoroughly. Based on what you have said, I think I should submit all SAT and subject test scores because there won’t be a price difference. Also, colleges by having everything, colleges can decide what scores to use. I know requirements will vary between different colleges but would this be a good idea?

My son got a little bit different information when visiting (and he did some interviews too) Carleton, Williams, Amherst, Wesleyan and Brown Univ. earlier this summer. Each of them will take the ACT OR the SAT–and each of them will take and consider SAT II’s even if you decide to send your ACT and not your SAT. Of that group, only Williams requires two SAT II’s; the others don’t require SAT II’s but highly recommend them. And finally, there is a myth (mainly on the East Coast and southeast) that the SAT is preferred over the ACT by selective schools; indeed, in the past this was true. However, now all of these schools strongly state that many of their accepted students send only the ACT and not the SAT (although most send SAT subject tests). My son is probably going to send them all, ie ACT, SAT, and SAT Subject Tests, but you don’t have to. And most schools are fine with Score Choice, although there is a minority (I believe Yale is one of them) that insist on all scores from all sittings being sent.
