My daughter is a senior and will be applying to a handful of reach schools. She got a 35 ACT and 2220 SAT. I am inclined to think that she should submit only her ACT score; however, her guidance counselor claims that the top tier schools want to see SAT scores. Would she be at a disadvantage if she only submits the ACT? Should she send in both scores?

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Based on the meager information provided in your OP, submit the ACT score only.

Some schools require all scores (ACT and SAT), but for most you can send either one. If the school prefers SAT, they would state that in their policy. If they say that they will treat both tests equally, they will treat them equally. I cant think of any college that would prefer one test over another, but you should always check with them before submitting scores.

Does your D have SATII scores? What are they? Some colleges require you to send SATI scores, if you are submitting SATII scores. Again, check with each college.

Every school we dealt with, back in the day, accepted either. Some preferred one over the other, but still accepted both.
I recommend you turn in the one best and leave it at that.
Also recommend do not turn scores in automatically in case she re-takes anything.
wait for final results, and turn in one best.
