Substitute AP for SATII?

I just thought I'd ask. The AP test is not only harder but more comprehensive and measures your ability as a student better. The downside is, it's a 5 point scale so you can't tell the really really good from the really good.

Why not just take both? If you studied for the AP then you'll be more than ready for the SAT II test.

That's just the thing with a lot of colleges, where they have to separate the really good from the really really good, substituting the AP couldn't work.

plus, not everyone has the opportunity to take ap classes!

there's a reason why there is an SAT date on the weekend between the AP test weeks. it's the best time to take SAT IIs if you've taken AP courses, because you only have to study for both once!

Why don't they just expand the AP scale? A lot of the subject tests are supposed to be based off that introductory class, but... really, very few intro classes actually cover all that material (at least for Physics and Chem), so it becomes a pain to have to study the stuff separately in addition to your general workload.

Plus, the APs give you a bigger range of subjects. I would have taken a CS SAT II if they had one, but they don't.

I think expanding the AP scale, such as adding half points, will make it harder for college board to make its claims that 5=A, 4=B, etc.

i dont think AP should expand the scale. it's broad for a reason, because the base of knowledge is so broad that only parts of it actually end up on the test, and it's luck if the parts you are tested are your strong points or were never even taught in your AP class. it's an eval of how much you retained of the information, not particularly what exactly you know
