You have a good chance at UIUC for non-engineering majors as in state URM.
What is your uwGPA?
UMich is likely a low reach to reach even with considering URM.

How do you reconcile your great GPA with your mediocre ACT score? Did you try the SAT?

I’m not completely sure what the uwGPA is i was talking to my counselor and she said around the 3.6 area

I thought a 27 was a a little better than average seeing many universities wanting around a 24. I am striving for at least a 30 though

To get into ut austin oos you need a 30+ it’s super competitive for oos students

Lowest Average for oos is 30+
http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/whyut/profile/scores</a></p>

I also plan on majoring in psychology

The low reach is university of Florida I got in with less then stellar scores. Look at my post you’ll see what I mean. Also university of Wisconsin also being black will help you for both. Since I got in. They have low averages for African Americans and really want to accept more. 2% for Madison.

Now the high reaches are ut-austin umich, and ucla. If your test scores can reach 30+ yes for ut and umich… Especially ut because they won a case allowing them to use race in the admission process for diversity reasons.

That rank really hurts you top (11%) for ucla who had 60,000 applicants for a spot of 3k or 4k not sure. And ut heavily uses rank in their admission process.

The matches (ones you will most likely get into) fsu, Indiana, Illinois, penn state.
Especially Illinois at Urbana I got in oos (horrible scores lol)

I talked with admission people on Facebook during this time about uf and became really good friends I believe that’s what helped me get into all of the schools I got into. I constantly once a month contacted them about my love for the school, all of that blah blah lol. Just kissing butt a little to improve my chances which worked.

But don’t overdo it. I did that with ut austin and got capped first then appealed twice and finally got in.i messaged them like once a week I was crazy obsessed with ut. Will never do that again.

But honestly based on your profile even if you got into all you most likely will go to uiuc because I don’t think you should take those huge huge amount of loans for oos schools

This schools are way above average so you would need way way above averages to get into them

I would be very surprised if you got into UF, UT or Michigan as an out of stater with a 27 ACT.

UF is a high match, I wouldn’t be surprised if you got in, however, like @135pipe said, you’re likely have to pay full OOS cost, which is pricy to say the least.

FSU is a match, and you’ll have a much better chance (though still not great) at a OOS tuition waiver, than at UF.

Apply to both (app fee is $30) and if you get admitted, wait to see how much aid you’ll be awarded. It would help if you can get your ACT score up, as it would increase your chances at a scholarship/OOS tuition waiver.

Good Luck!

@Gator88NE its not likely i would get anything off even through fafsa? and I would like to bump my score up to a 30. the 27 was a last minute planned test with no preperation

No not really my Efc was $10
I only got 15k for grants.
But I will definitely be going to uf for med school. I really feel in love with the school

UF doesn’t met 100% need for OOS students. To close the gap, you’ll need an OOS scholarship (along with the FA grants).

<a href=“Scholarships | UF Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships”>http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/scholarships.html</a></p>

FSU offers OOS tuition waivers, bit it’s also competitive (though likely not as completive as UF’s scholarships).

<a href=“FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found”>http://admissions.fsu.edu/freshman/finances/scholarships.cfm</a></p>

UF OOS Tuition is $28,500+/year (30 credits)
FSU OOS Tuition is $21,600+/year (30 credits)

ok thank you

FYI. The mid 50 ACT for UMich this year is 30-33. So even 30 may not be enough for an oos student.

Stanley, i think your smartest move is to stay home at UIUC or go OOS to UW (high match OOS) or UM-Twin Cities (match OOS).

The Illini are #7 in Psychology.
The Badgers and Gophers are tied for 9th.

And they all have enough strong programs that if you change your mind – something a lot of students do – they’ll have what you’re seeking.

UW is better than Minnesota overall but it’s about $13000 more annually OOS.

Rankings are subjective, obviously, but UW was recently ranked #25 in the world by UWUR. Some of the variables of that ranking are questionable, but others are pretty valid (like teaching quality).Michigan is #21, Northwestern #23 and Duke #26 by comparison.

UIUC is comparable to UW and is your in-state flagship.

@prezbucky I do really like UIUC and Wisco is very high on my list. It really does just depend if i want to stay home, which im really iffy about.

Have you visited UW? I’ll assume you’ve spent some time on the Illinois campus.

At any rate, you have plenty of strong options on your list. Just try to visit the schools that admit you.

Illinois plays the Badgers in Camp Randall this year. If you are a football fan and want to experience Madison on game day, try to snag a ticket somewhere in sections K through P – the student sections. It is a blast.

UC doesn’t give OOS financial aid to anyone.
