suggest an easy humanities SAT II for a sci student?

Hey guys, I'm an international and my system here is such that about half of the top students choose not to take any humnaities at all. So it's been suggested to me that I take a SAT II humans, since i'm applying to HYP...

which is the most crammable subject? I've about a month to do it.

actually, while answering this, can someone tell me if it's impt to have a humanities SAT II for an international like me? I wish colleges would understand my system here, that many people don't take humanities, but I'm not sure if they do.

if it helps, my SAT I and II (Phy Chem Math2) are both 2400.

I personally found World History to be a very crammable exam.
Putting aside the innuendo.

LOL! where's the innuendo, I can't see it... guess I shouldn't take lit huh.

lit is crammable too, just have to find the patterns- which i don't quite get.

Lit. can be crammed easiest; it's not too different from the CR on the regular SAT or AP Lang exam. U.S. History is probably the next easiest; you just have to find a good review book and then it's not too hard.

i'd say history. (i'm not sure if world history is available for jan testing though) i know of someone who crammed stuff in two hours and managed to get 700ish. just get a good prep book and i think you'll be okay.

you don't actually have to study for lit. just know some of the literary devices and stuff. as the poster above says, it's not that different from CR. it can be a hit-or-miss kind of thing though; it's said to be one of the toughest subject tests to score high on.

Literature is a hit-or-miss.
Either you know it or you don't.
It's very different from SAT I CR, in that it isn't as straightforward and easy.
You actually have to read the passages very, very carefully,
and pacing is essential.

I still recommend World History.
Massive curve and trivia.

go for one of the history subject tests. Both are just memorization of facts so will be easy to cram and have decent curve.

thanks guys. guess i'll head down to borders before december 26 and hog a few lit and world history practice books and see what i'm better at.

i used to be REALLY REALLY good at lit, but i dropped it at 15 years old in favour of more crammable humanities subjects like geography. then at 17 I stopped humanities altogether =/ kind of regret it now!

good luck! oh and for what it's worth, it seems funner to study world/us hist than lit. that is, if you were more into knowing useless little factoids as compared to analyzing passages. :)

hmm i read the world history and lit books, tried some questions. erm... suffice to say i don't know a single thing in the world history book. what now?

if i try to cram world history, it'd be from scratch. let's say almost all my january weekends and weekday nights are available. what do you think?

oh damn, world history is not available for january. US history?! lol!!

How about taking a foreign language SAT II? Since you're an international, you could take the SAT II of your first language.

i don't think taking the SAT II in my native language proves anything or adds any value to my application?

True, but you did ask for the easiest one :]

Have you studied US History in school at all? Though it's not a difficult test, if you haven't learned the material at all it'll still be difficult to cram for.

But yeah, that or Lit looks like it would be the best choice. I agree that you should get some books for them and see which one seems easier to you.

@screwitlah: you're singaporean aren't you? if you are, what sch do you attend? anyway, the only reason you should be taking a humans paper is if you are proficient in one or more of them (in which case you should just write the paper in the subject you're most proficient at). you shouldn't rly take it to stand out from the math/sci crowd, unless you're really confident about your ability to cram from a prep book.

if i were you i would approach a humans teacher at your sch in your chosen subject. i'm sure they'll help you out.

haha, no, i reocgnise a phrase or a name every few pages but... no i've never touched US history before in my life. damn.

yeah, i'm leaning towards lit too. thanks :)

oh, is it psosible to change ur subject test before the test date, after the registration deadline? i don't mind paying a fee.

You can change the subject test you're taking on the test day itself. Didn't they tell you that when you were sitting for the math and science subject tests?

Actually, I think history is very crammable, especially since you're singaporean. (I started world history from next to scratch 3 weeks before the test date and scored an 800). But good luck with lit!

@yipeng: i haven't taken any subject tests yet but are you sure about world hist ~ 3 weeks. i've got more than five months and if i thought it was anywhere near that easy, i'll take it. what were your study resources?

hm thats interesting. i can't take world history cos it's not offered on the jan test date, and us history seems much harder but hmmmm... what u said is very very interesting.

did you go full steam 3 weeks, without any work/school? I'm stay-out in NS now, so my working hours are burned :P
