Suggestions to improve chance of getting into NYU?? PLEASE!!

Hi. I'm a rising junior and since I know thats the year colleges scrutinize the most I was wondering how to improve my chances. I would really like to get into the film program at NYU. Chance me?

African American Female
Cumulative GPA: 3.4
Top half of my class.

Freshman Year:
Honors English
Honors History
Intro to Physics
AVID(college prep semester)
JROTC (semester)
Cosmetology (semester)
Geometry

Between freshman and sophomore year, I moved from Germany back to the states (my dad's military), so I had to do a lot of grad requirements for my new school

Sophomore Year:
Honors Biology(course requirements)
Spanish 1
Algebra 2
Honors English
Social Studies 9/World Geography(course requirements)
Journalism

PSAT:
Not sure of exact scores; I just know that I did above average.
PLAN (practice ACT):
26 (Not sure if its on the same scale.)

Extra Curriculars:
Varsity Cheerleading since freshman year
Newspaper
Sing in my church choir
Book Club
Participated in the H!Red Apprenticeship program. (paid apprenticeship that teaches job skills)

I also plan on founding a film club, and planning a few mini-film festivals. I'm going to raise my GPA to at least a 3.6 (at best a 4. a gillion). What else can I do to increase my chances of getting into NYU?

Work on raising your GPA and be sure to take the SAT atleast once (preferably twice) you’re junior year. I reccomend taking it a total of three times. If your school offers any AP classes, be sure to take advantage of them! Keep with the EC’s you have now, like cheerleading… colleges like to see consistency! Also, maybe do some community service.

I just finished my junior year… it’s hard, but like you said, its the most important year since its the last one colleges will see on your transcript. Good luck! :)

For the film program, an excellent range of films will be key. However, can you afford NYU? It is hard to get much aid without being at the top of their stats academically.

thanks for your help guys!!

I do plan on raising my GPA a lot, and also, to redroses, I’m pretty sure that I can afford to pay some of it. lol. I’ll just take out a couple of loans. Not to mention my dads an active duty soldier/veteran, so I’ll probably make use of some of those benefits.

I think you should take some AP courses. Many colleges such as NYU like to see a prospective student taking as many difficult courses as he/she can. Other than that I agree with everybody else, raise your GPA, but I’m sure you already know that. Also, you should take the SAT and the ACT.
