Summer B courses

Hello everyone, I am headed to UF over summer but had a couple questions about the courses offered. The first semester for my major (computer science) on the UF Catalog suggests these classes:

CHM 2045 General Chemistry 1 or
CHM 2095 Chemistry for Engineers 1 (GE-P)

CHM 2045L General Chemistry 1 Laboratory (GE-P)
COP 3502 Programming Fundamentals 1
HUM 2305 What is the Good Life (GE-H)

MAC 2311 Analytic Geometry and Calculus 1(GE-H)

For summer, should I pick from these first semester classes? I know I’ll be taking what is the good life but should I pair that with chemistry or take some other science that isn’t listed on the catalog? Also how would that affect my fall term? I guess my question is how closely you have to follow the catalog and how you use it to pick summer classes, thanks.

I’d pair it with calculus to get a head start, that way you can start with physics in fall and by your second year of college you’ll be done with all your calc and physics and won’t have to worry about those in addition to your computer science classes which are going to get harder

When I attended SSTP (a summer program at UF) the dean or counselor pf engineering-I can’t remember who- strongly advised against taking calc in the summer. Even though ut does give me ahead start, Calc and Physics are the two most fundamental classes, especially Calculus, so it would be a bad idea to rush through them

I guess it’s up to you if you think you can handle it or not. If you’re doing calculus highschool I don’t see why doing it over summer would be so bad. I started calculus 1 last summer with no experience and got an A, and I didn’t find it too difficult. It was fast paced, but with only two classes there’s plenty of time to study it

Hi! So your choices are very limited because you are only attending Summer B, and not Summer C which is the whole summer. I don’t think that Calc or Chem are offered Summer B. The reason is because 6 weeks is not enough time to teach these difficult courses. I would instead try doing some general education classes. A social/behavioral science, humanities or diversity class, along with Good Life. DEFINITELY take Good Life over summer!

Also, don’t fret too much about classes now. The preview staffers and preview advisors will help you choose them

Thanks! I was unaware of that, I just wanna make sure I don’t take any classes whose credit won’t count towards my major
