Hello, I was recently accepted into the Summer B term at the University of Florida, and I have a couple of questions. Thanks!
- Are Summer B classes geared towards your major? ( I applied for Computer Engineering)
- When the summer term is over, do I join classes with the newly admitted students in the fall? and would I also have class in the spring?
- Is the Summer B term only for my freshman year? and do I go back to a Fall/Spring split my sophomore year, junior year, etc.?
- What are the general disadvantages of the Summer B term?
- Is it easier to get into the Summer term or is that just a myth?
I appreciate any and all answers. Sorry if my questions were a bit simple, I just want some clarity because I’m a bit confused. Those that got into the Summer B term, let me know!
Summer B kids usually take 6 credit hours (2 classes) that are typical freshman courses. When summer is over, you start the fall term with everyone admitted for fall. The disadvantage is that it takes up part of your summer, so it might impact family travel plans, etc. The stats are very similar but it is slightly easier to get in for summer.
My daughter chose to start in summer. She was excited to get started with college and she really learned the UF ropes.
UF’s Innovation Academy is a spring/summer program. No fall classes. Different deal entirely.
@GatorDad305 Thanks! That cleared up a lot of smoke, and now I’m more excited to attend UF!
As you should be! Go Gators.
A lot of kids choose to attend Summer B even when it isn’t a condition of acceptance. My son and several of his friends went last year just because of their excitement of getting on with things. There is no stigma to it.
Summer B has a more relaxed atmosphere than Fall, yet the new freshmen are generally more eager to learn than in other terms. I know this because I work at UF-- Faculty usually enjoy teaching Summer B freshmen because they are the ones who are brightest and most ambitous, on average.
