Hi guys, anyone else participating in summer at brown this year?
• If anyone has any tips on what to pack that would be great!
• Also is there anything in Providence that’s a must do? I have a few things planned but I want to make the most of it.
I’m going for women and leadership from California.
I am leaving the 12th for DNA lab course. I am packing only a few items appropriate for class (as you know lab an leadership have certain dress requirements), and packing mostly clothes for outside of class. Definitely bring night on the town clothes and beach stuff if you are interested.
A fan is helpful. Some dorms aren’t air conditioned.
Go to Federal Hill for Italian food.
Avon Cinema on Thayer shows independent films. I love TeaLuxe on Thayer.
Go to the museum on the campus of Rhode Island School of Design (next to Brown campus).
See Waterfire.
Jog on Blackstone Boulevard. Get homemade ice-cream at the end (near Pawtucket) at “Three Sisters” or vegan cupcakes at “Wildflour” (Pawtucket) then jog back. Saturdays there is a farmer’s market with local cheese, seafood, etc.
It’s a great city for architecture and also for H.P. Lovecraft fans!
Go to Newport and see the mansions and walk on Cliff Walk. (It’s about a 30-45 minute drive from Providence). The beaches are best at Middletown (next to Newport). There are also great beaches south of Providence.
If you want to tour colleges in Boston, you can get Amtrak within walking distance of Brown.
@BiochemHopeful I’m taking Genetics and Human Behavior starting next week, is that the class you’re taking?
I’m packing a fan. I was told to get a mattress pad and shower caddy, rubber flip flops, and laundry detergent. The weather on the east coast is really hot+humid, so plan accordingly.
