16-18

dungeons (keeney)

not really

hang out

you also stay on wriston and in grad center. The pembroke campus is usually reserved for the various sports camps.

I would say it’s worth doing if there’s a class you want to take and you can afford it.

My daughter took the four-week program (Creative Writing) this past summer. They stuck all the four weekers in EAST CAMPUS/Perkins, which is the worst location/most isolated dorm. If you go for only two weeks you’ll be much more centralized, which is safer AND more convenient–either in Wriston or Keeney quad, or on the Pembroke campus. She was REALLY disappointed with the housing.

The course, on the other hand, was fantastic–five or six sections with 6-8 kids in each, her section was led by the main professor. Really worthwhile class.

She was a rising senior and felt old. Most kids were going into sophomore or junior year.

What is the usual age? Again 16-18

What dorms do you stay in? I stayed in Sears which is a Sorority/Frat House so it actually wasn’t so bad (except we NEVER had hot water! I always showered at Littlefield) But the room itself was really spacious and nice :)

Is it worth it? YES! It was the best experience of my entire life!

What do you do when you don’t have class? You walk around Thayer Street, hanging out with friends, head to the mall, go to the zoo, take a train to Boston or NY, go to the beach, and WATERFIRE!

I know it’s to late to apply for 2012 so when should I start applying for 2013?

Justdancey: You mean Summer@Brown 2012? I don’t think it’s too late to apply. :)

I looked on the website. They said it was.

Hey I just checked again your right. It’s not to late! Yay!

I stayed in Mead hall, in the consecutive summers of 2006 and 2007. Summer@Brown was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had in my life. It was so amazing, that I am applying as a junior transfer to Brown from my current university. But anyone who has the chance should go!

Justdancey: Have they posted any new information?

Chelsea(that’s my name too haha) all the stuff that they have on the website is still for 2011.

I went for a 3 week course on law, this summer, and I loved it(:

Mostly people from 15 to 18, from all walks of life, which I thought was really great. We had people from Choate and Andover in my class, as well as people from Colombia, France, England, Argentina, etc. I embarassed 'em all in our mock trial though… My roommate was from Chicago though, lives in a trailor, so you really do have all kinds of people, and I loved that(: By the way, to note an odd thing I noticed… Everyone there wanted to go to Yale!

I stayed in the Keeney quad, which was nice, location-wise. Close enough to hustle to The Ratty, grab a cup of coffee and a muffin, and get to class in under 12 minutes. I was in a double (Jameson wing on the 2nd floor), and it was pretty spacious, but it got ridiculously hot… There was no air conditioning, so it’d be the middle of the night and you’d STILL be sweating! I took to wearing boxers and a bathrobe to everwhere but class lol, because my dorm was so hot… Yes, if you were in The Ratty or the VeeDub or walking around campus and saw the guy in the white bathrobe, that was me!

What I did in my spare time… Hmm, I would walk down Thayer Street sometimes, or go to Starbucks and get a drink with a few girls from foreign countries, while they smoked, go to dinner with my roommate, and we’d smuggle cookies (or muffins, the raspberry and white-chocolate-chip muffins are to-die-for) or whatever back to our room, and then goof around and watch youtube videos or study. I never want on the trip, but they did have trips to Newport, and most people liked that. Also, they had 2 dances, though I didn’t go because I have (and had) a girlfriend). You’d often hear live music playing; they had this great '60s cover band once. By the way, my dorm had a great view of Providence, so here’s a photo… Or two.

In retrospect, the first part of the first week was kinda’ miserable, but by the end of the second week, Brown felt like home…(: I still miss it, the food, my roommate, the freedom of my own schedule, etc.

I’d say that it was well worth it, it was a great experience and one that I won’t soon forget(: I’d encourage all who wish to apply, but do it quickly, especially if you want financial aid, as they’re very good with the amount they award, but it runs out quickly!

If anyone needs anymore information, feel free to ask me anything, I won’t bite(:

^ wow thanks!! That helped me alot.

Hey to people who have gone to summer@brown. I went on the website to get an application and I couldn’t figure out how to make m account. Help??

Don’t even bother making an account yet. They’ll reset it in December; that’s when applications are submitted.

Never mind I just got it!

It’s a pain in the you-know-what haha… Gimme’ a few minutes and I’ll figure it out. By the way, go ahead and have your parents get their most recent tax returns ready, and figure out which teacher you’d like to do a phone interview for you.

Ohh, okay(: My other advice still stands though haha, especially the tax return part!

How do you figure out the teacher part?
