HellolmChelsea- there is a shuttle that runs from the center of campus to the airport in Providence every 30 minutes or so. D attended this summer and we brought her out there but let her fly home herself. They run a shuttle to the mall where you can pick up sheets, towels, pillow, a fan, etc. So you don’t need to try and bring all of that on the plane. A lot of parents do bring their kids especially the east coast people. But many other kids do fend for themselves. There are people to help with baggage and it is very organized. It was the best experience of her life and she did not want to come home! Do apply for the financial aid, though. It helps.

Lastone, did your daughter say anything bad about her experience?

LastOne2012: Thanks! I’m so excited! It sounds truly incredible. :)

justdance- the only thing she had negative to say was that it was too short! And she didn’t feel some of the students were serious enough…that they were only there because their parents made them go. For my part, I thought the restrooms were disgusting, as well as the pillows and mattresses that they provided. But she was so enamored with Brown, that she didn’t even care about that stuff and she is pretty picky!!!

Thanks. I’m debating on if I should go this coming summer or the next since ill just be turning 15 this coming summer.

Hmm, no time like the present(: And yeah, the dorms are the pits… Which was odd, because the week before I left, my uncle was talkimg about how all of the Ivy League schools have crummy dorms. But you won’t really care about the beds or the bathrooms, trust me(: Our bathrooms weren’t THAT bad, and we were the bad hall, with one room accumulating 14 noise violations lol. Though the lack of air conditioning can be pretty awful at times haha.

Haha yah I heard the dorms get pretty hot but in from Texas so it shouldn’t be that bad. Haha. So you don’t think I would be to young?

Justdancecy- you will be grouped with kids your own age based on the length of program you attend. For example, all the two-weekers together, all the three-weekers together, etc. If you’re on Facebook check the summer@brown fan page. All of the kids on there love it. Also, check out the YouTube videos.

Lastone- thanks!! That helped(: Im think I’m going to he applying to get a free ride. Does anybody know how long you get to stay if you get financial aid?

You apply for financial aid based on the course, IF I remember correctly… I may be wrong, it’s late and I have a headache haha, so I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure they actually award the aid based on what course (length) you choose. I missed the financial aid deadline because my dad’s awful at organizing his tax returns, but that’s how I THINK it works.

Thanks. I really wanna go.

Hey Eli! (we met at summer and brown and CC)
To someone considering summer at Brown I reccomend it. I had a great time. There was a lot of freedom but I loved that. I had my class from 9-12 which I though was a great time b/c once it was over I had 11.5-12 hours to do whatever. I went shopping, did hw, hung out with friends. Anything really. The time flew. I was three for three weeks and it was a great experience. you could see what college was like and it was a good experience. You just can’t be the type of person to get homesick. My roommate did but nobody else in our hall or that I knew was. The avg age was 15-18 and honestly the thing i liked best were that compared to my high school, people were smart! I could talk with them about stuff and in general it was a great time. People chose to be there, chose to take the classes that they did and chose to have a great time. It was fun becuase it was freedom, learning, a new experience and new people. I enjoyed my time there. I recomend you go. I would say majority of people were going into senior year but also a large percentage going into junior and even some sophomore. There were all different types of people, some did not care about the class at all, some were super into it, but most were in between. You either stay in dorms or frat houses- I was in keeney which was great cuz most people were. Some of the one week kids had badly located dorms but everything else seemed good. I had a great time and I bet you would too. I don’t really remember what the otehr questions you had were, but I those were just my feelings. Feel free to ask me any questions :)

Just realized the hey eli looks kinda creepy- he knows who i am too haha.
Oh and I just looked up you last question, is it worth it?
Yes. You can make what you want of it, social or educational, and thats the great part.

Has anybody done the doctor program at summer@brown? What did you think of it. Were the classes really hard?

I just found your thread and I think you should definitely go this summer! I went last summer when I was a few days away from turning 15, and it was one of the best experiences of my life! The kids there were all so great and it really made me want to strive to become a better student so I could go to a school like brown. Though there were mostly kids older then me in age, almost everybody was a rising sophomore or junior, so I didn’t feel too young at all! It was so fun meeting people from all over the world, though I was the only person there, that I was aware of, that was from Missouri.
