Summer C term 2008

Our s applied for summer 2008. I know fsu-uf went down this road last year.

sounds like there are many benefits to the summer c term. i have a few questions.

Housing. The FSU web site seems to indicate that housing info will be available sometime in January. Does your Housing number for the Fall apply to summer session as well, or is it first come first served for that session?

Dining Hall. Are both of the main dining halls open in the summer (suwanee and fresh food)?

Courses. I suspect most students take two courses. Anyone have any good recommendations?

Orientation. Is there a different orientation for the summer and the Fall term? Do you go to one and signup for classes for both terms then?

Intramural sports. do they run a session of intramural sports during the summer?

thanks in advance for the help.

My son has not attended summer yet but here are some links...

Housing - Florida State University Housing - Summer 2007 Information
You apply for summer after fall. January the list of open dorms will be available.

Seminole Dining - Welcome to CampusDish at Florida State University!
Suwanee and Fresh Food are open but hours are more limited.

Two courses is probably a nice load for the summer 6 week session. You need to look at the general education list to pick out courses that meet the requirements. He may satisfy some of the requirements with AP/CLEP/IB or DUAL ENROLLMENT already so choose courses that he needs https://cfprod.ais.fsu.edu/anr/CourseRequirementsView/index.cfm?ORIGIN=J&app=PUBLIC

Orientation - fsu.edu | orientation
You just take a May or early June session for SUMMER start.
You register for both summer and fall.

Intramural Sports - Florida State University Campus Recreation
I am not sure what sports are available in the summer.

There is loads of information on the FSU web site.

Whoa cybermom, your bringing out the big guns today, great post...

I'll add a bit of insight to summer, as a freshman it was possibly one of my best decsions because when fall rolled around i had friends, i knew what to do, i got the immaturity out of my system, and i really got focused after it.

Housing, you need to do a seperate application for summer and it will be availiable around january. Suwannee and fresh food are open during the summer, and so is the food court, but on the weekends they have limited hours.

I recommend taking EASY courses during the summer which fulfill requirements, such as CGS2100=COMPUTERS, or SPE1000= SPEECH,enc1101=english, mac1105=math...please dont try and take something like biochemistry or trig, or some higher level class during summer as teachers really cram everything into 6weeks.

And yes they have different dates for the summer orientation, usually they have them before the ones for fall students, also they have one orientation which begins they day before summer c classes start, which i took part in.

And yes they have intramurals during summer i took part in kickball during the summer, plus its always easy to join in on a game of football or ultimate frisbee on landis.

Summer is great, i think i'm doing it again this july.

What is the difference between summer C and D? I see one is 6 weeks and one is 8. Are there different types of classes offered based on the length?

Also, when one applies for Summer session (as my daughter will be doing next year), do they specify C or D?

from what i have researched, those who apply for the summer as freshman, apply for summer C (6-week session). Summer D begins a week or so befor and ends a week or so after summer C.

for many high school seniors, Summer D would start too early taking in to account graduation, and other related stuff.

I think you will find that all who have recently been admitted (like my son) for summer, applied for summer C, which you do specify on the application.

Having recently gone through this process, if FSU is the school for your daughter and that is where she wants to go, then apply early next summer whenever the application comes out. Many kids are in an "academic break" mode after the junior year of high school, but try your best to encourage your daughter to apply early in the process. I wasn't sure it would help, but now I am convinced its the way to go no matter where you apply for school.

Parent2noles, cybermom and many other far more experienced college parents all made this point clear over the past year and they were right.

good luck to your daughter. FSU is a great place!

Thank you, NYCollegedad.

hey Tzais01

i noticed you said you recently visited FSU. why not fill out a visit report.
