I am taking Chem 1a through the Pre-Collegiate Program. Is it reaaaaaaly hard? Just Ok? Easy? I took Hon Chem my sophomore year, so I am rusty.

Also, anyone else taking courses?

yo im taking this too and haven’t had any chem since sophomore year too. i heard its really hard in the fall but im glad to get it over with. im a freshman at cal though – idk the different between the pre-collegiate prog and freshman prog…

what time are you doing labs?

I am a junior in HS. lol. You go to Cal? Me and my friend are taking it together, another friend is taking Calculus.

I hope it isn’t too hard.

As for labs, MW 1-5. So on those days, there is no lecture?

I think there’s lecture everyday, just that labs are on Mondays and Wednesdays for you.

There are only 6 hours of lecture and 8 hours of lab.

I hope this isn’t super hard. Kind of worried now. Any one actually take it?

bump! Need info on Chem! =)

Will it be hard? I am good at Chem(Although rusty) and in the summer I will be doing 4 hours of community service every day(Sometimes none because of the time of the labs), and the rest of the day will be for this class and just enjoying the summer.

bump!!!

take chem in spring.

This is a FINE question.
I’m also wondering about the summer chemistry course.

I don’t even go to Cal, I hope to, but I don’t. Im a HS Junior and I already signed up. Its not a matter of what to take, but how is it?

Someone please?

Anyone take Chem 1A?

bump 10 char

How well you do in Chem 1A really depends on how well you know Chem enough said. It varies from person to person based on their educational background, exposure to Chem, and intuition for Chem. This probably true for most classes you will take in college. Chem 1A only covers a select number of main points, but I felt like the midterms and final really emphasized your intuition for chemical phenomenon, and a bit of algebraic manipulation may be necessary.

^Ok. Thanks for answering.

Is it possible to get an A? Like for some classes, it is super hard to get an A, is this that type of a class? Also, since there are only 8 weeks, is the whole book condensed into the 8 weeks (How big is the book)? Finally, how many tests are there, two midterms and a final?

Also, this is the lowest form of Chem offered, so it cant too hard? Right?

bump 10char

help a highschooler out!! =)

look at the grade distributions on campusbuddy.com

~the top 20% get an A/A+

So there is like a set quota? Only top 20% get an A, no matter percent? I now some colleges do something like that. Or are you just saying that on an average, 20% get +95’s.

No, there’s not really a set curve typically curves very from instructor to instructor and from class to class. You should really look into who’s teaching to find out all the details

There is no info.

The teacher is Chunmei Li.

Last Question, for now, what book is used? =)
