What are Kelley's rules for which courses you can and cannot take at a community college over the summer? Where is this information on the website?

Here’s the link to IUB’s Credit Transfer Service. You can search by school or by class. If you search under the Business course category, you will see many courses that can be taken elsewhere and transferred.

When speaking with my son though, I know he has mentioned that there are some courses that the school would prefer be taken on campus, so I would have your student check with a Kelley adviser before proceeding just to be safe.

Two other things–

(1) You need to fill out the form and get whatever course you plan to take approved by the Indiana University office of admissions before you actually take the course; and

(2) Be aware that the last 30 units have to be taken at IU-B in order to graduate–so don’t take a summer class prior to your senior year unless you still plan to take 30 units once back at Bloomington.

Calcruzer,

re: #1 above, I think the only time a student needs to fill out the form is when the course isn’t included in the list of courses already approved.

My son took Econ202 last summer at our local community college and it transferred without any formal prior approval. It was a listed course in the search database.

However, he still double-checked beforehand with his Kelley adviser to make sure it was OK.

Yeah, I’m forgetting that in my son’s case, all the courses are out-of-state, and therefore are not pre-approved.
