I was wondering for summer 2010. I wanted to take classes in the summer program.

How long is the program? In terms of weeks. I was also hoping to do some volunteer/internship during the summer.

I was thinking of taking:

Organic chem (4), English II (3), an Ethics (3), Wellness (2). That’s 12. Is that a lot for summer?

I only found this as a reliable website. [Georgia Tech: Registrar: Registration: Summer FAQ](http://www.registrar.gatech.edu/registration/summerfaq.php)

and the course catalog for this summer.

Thanks in advance.

That’s a lot. My gf is taking 12 credits this summer and on top of work she has almost no time. Most people you talk to will tell you to take less than the reg. 12 (full time in the summer is 6 credit hours).

But the link says that 12 hours is the minimum.
How do you convert between semester and credit? I can’t seem to find it. Sorry if its obvious.
Thanks Mr. bojangles, you’ve been very helpful.

Twelve hours is the minimum to be a full-time student in any semester, including summer. Six hours is the minimum to be a half-time student in any semester, including summer. Half-time status matters for student loan deferral. As an estimate, taking 12 hours in the summer is like taking 15 hours in a Fall or Spring semester. It’s certainly possible and it’s usually what most people take.

The fact that you’re taking one math/science course (Chem), one humanities (English), and two “fluff” courses (ethics and wellness) makes it an easy schedule. Twelve hours of Organic Chem, Calculus II, and Physics II, wouldn’t be nearly as easy (even though it’s the same number of hours).

Now, if you’re going to add-in work, that changes things. Most students work 10-20 hours per week, so if you can fit in something like that on top of the 12 hours, that’s not so bad. If you’re talking about working full time (40 hours), then you’re really going to need to scale back. In addition to being limited to classes offered at night (which, right there cuts out the number of classes you can take), I agree with Bojangles that 2 classes is the most you can do.

Thanks GP Burdell,
Just wondering how long summer classes last?

It’s usually 11 weeks. There’s usually a week before between Spring and Summer, and a week after between Summer and Fall. So, theoretically, you can fit in a 13 week internship.

Thanks for the help guys.
Just wondering if there is a place to find all the prerequisite charts for each school. Some of them have it on a website (like chemistry or PST), but I can’t find one for psychology.

Nevermind, got it.
