@stevenjp maybe that is hinting at when most decisions will come?
@cdctransfer from looking at the fall 2014 thread , the higher the GPA the quicker they get accepted unless its like pet E or chem E … so for most if your GPA is really high and they liked your essays then you should get accepted quicker
Any idea on how early decisions roll out for people with less than 30 hours?
there not really early , they send in there transcripts as soon as grades are posted and with great essays and rec letters and resume … they application isn’t in review for too long .
Hi everyone! How sad that it feels like this is the longest wait ever and it’s only mid march lol. I wanted to see if anyone’s status have changed from completed/on-time to “in review”?
Not sure if it’s suppose to do so and in that case when…
Hello
Can anyone chance me please?
12 hours of F with 0.00 GPA from 2008.
Got back to school in spring 2014 local community college in houston.
Currently on my 3rd semester.
Completed classes: Cal 1 and 2, Physics 1, Gen chem 1, Govt 1, Psychology 1301 and Philosophy all of them are transferrable with 4.0 GPA
Currently enrolled for Physics 2, Gen chem 2 and Cal 3 and i am sure about 4.0 this spring too.
So at the end of spring semester i will have 37 credit hours with 4.0 but the 12 credits from 2008 will also count towards my cumulative GPA and the final GPA will be around 3.02.
Major: Physics; no second major selected.
No recent major EC’s but basically had a full time job all the time i was in school, well i still work full time.
Reccomendation from physics prof already sent to UT.
what are my chances of gettin into UT CNS?
Thanks in advance.
I be honest with you @regmi with all the Fs that you have, it seems very doubtful. I didn’t know anybody who failed a class and able to transfer to UT. Nonetheless, if I have one advice for you, it would be to put a second major. Go for Liberal Arts Undeclared, that is perhaps the easiest major to get in. If you got into UT, you can still switch major after a semester or two.
@regmi1, I have been assured by admissions staff that the application evaluators will notice that there is a 6yr gap in your academic record and see that you are a totally different student–since you have a 4.0 for the last few semesters. If you provided a meaningful explanation for the F’s, wrote quality essays, and the letter of rec from your Physics professor is good…I think you just might get in!
I’m in a similar situation by the way
@regmi1 Your academic performance in the past few years is flawless, you’re gonna have a good shot at getting in. It also might help if you addressed some of your circumstances in your essay
Has anyone’s app gone into review yet?
@cdctransfer mine is still complete/ on time and has been so since beginning of February.
Thanks for the reply guys, i was so happy abt the positive responses even though i might not get in lol. and yes something happened six years ago because of which i left college and i think i have done decent enough job to explain it in my essay. @faofao is it still possible to put a second major in my application?
@mathmean what do u mean by similar situation? year gap?
i was thinking about getting a LOR from my calc professor. Do you guys think it might help me because my major is physics or its just not worth it?
@regmi1 a letter of recommendation is always worth it! And sounds like a calc professor makes sense for your major! However, you will need to hurry up with submitting it as the applications most likely are already in the hands of the committees. Submit it online, that should be the fastest .
@regmi I honestly don’t remember/know if you can change your major after the deadline. I say you should give them a call. And I wish I visited this thread earlier because I was in your shoes last year. I was checking the transfer thread everyday just like many of you. Don’t give up your hope. Do anything in your power for that. Get one, two or three letters of recommendation if you can, they never hurts. I think it would help that you explained your situation on the essay.
Last year, I transferred from Houston Community College, applied for Radio-Film-Television first choice and got into Liberal Arts Undeclared (my second choice). GPA 3.52 and 32 hour when I submitted my application (3.67 and 55 credits hours when I finished at HCC but I don’t think that matters). Have 3 letters of recommendation from my communication and geology professors, another one from a church where I volunteered.
I was actually able to change my major after the deadline even though they say you can’t. It was to another major in the same college though, I don’t know if you can change it to something in an entirely different college
This is what my status is like. “Your application for transfer admission is complete except for the required 30 semester hours of transfer coursework.
We will make your admission decision after we receive your final, official transcript showing the remainder of your required coursework.”
But the thing i am worried about is this, “All UT Austin transfer applicants must have 30 transferable credit hours complete or “in progress” at the time of submitting the application. Students who apply with 30 hours “in progress” will be considered on a space-available basis after the 30 hours is complete.”
On a space available basis??
Do you guys think there will be any space left until i submit the final spring transcripts?
BTW I was able to add COLA as second choice major.
There should be space in every college except Cockrell
@regmi1-I have 9 hrs of bad grades from 10 yrs ago and a 46 hrs with a 4.0 since I’ve been back to school. I am planning on using the academic fresh start option but I was told that in order to do so, I would first need to apply and be rejected–and then I could use fresh start during my appeal. I have been told by admission staff that this sort of thing will definitely be noticed by evaluators–and that bad grades from years ago don’t matter as much as you might think (as long as address your academic record in your essays, and your current academic performance is well above average like a 4.0). Also, I agree with @stevenjp, Cockrell is gonna fill up fast
Hi everyone! Do the chances differ by school or by major? I’ve applied to COLA for Sociology and American Studies, as my first and second choice majors, respectively. I am not a typical transfer student so I had to send in four transcripts. The first two are from nearly five years ago and terrible, but my last two were pretty good with a 3.5 and 3.6. However, I logged into my MyStatus to check my aid application and I saw that only 33 credits are towards my degree (not complaining) but my “Transfer GPA” is a 2.85. By the end of this semester, that should go up to a 3.3 (I have two A’s for Common Core classes that just finished and I haven’t been able to send the updated transcript) I am well aware that’s on the lower side. I was told by a couple of people that my essays were good and I worked really hard on them, and I got two recommendations; one from the assistant principal at a school where I worked and one from the Director of Student Life at my former school. I was able to read them and I think they were pretty great. If I don’t get in, I’ll apply again for the next semester but I’m not giving up on Fall 2015 just yet!
