@MyUTAustin if you don’t mind me asking , how many hours did you have that were transferrable ? cause don’t you need 30 hours to go into review at UTD ? and plz let us know if you get in or not lol so we can judge cockrell acceptances off of you
@MyLonghorn, I had 14 hrs transferable from UTD and 40 hrs total from AP credits. I had called the admissions office earlier in Feb and they told me that all those AP credits need to show up on my UTD transcript, which I did after running around the registrar day and night. So overall I got 54 hrs now. I hope I’ll be able to make it there, very very nervous since the last 2 months and spent so many hrs on the essays…
@MyUTAustin i don’t think you’ll find out till May/June either cause AP credit doesn’t count towards the 30 transferable hours since there are no grades , I’m pretty sure until you submit your transcript again for this semester , but then again you might get lucky and they might just let you in lol , Good Luck !
Thank you so much and Good Luck to you too, hope we meet there:).
Hey everyone! Just thought Id update on my status. Mine changed to “in review” today. Also, it doesn’t change from “complete/on time” to “in review.” Instead, on the top where it would usually say, “We have all of your items for admission,” it changes to “Your application is in review.” Also, I spoke to someone in admissions who then transferred me to an evaluator and she said if you have more than 30 transferable credits, you should get a decision mid April! I know someone else had also mentioned academic gaps, and she did assure me that they look at everything and notice when bad grades from years ago don’t show you in a good light. (She said this scenario is not uncommon for transfers.) However, she did specify that people in that scenario should mention that in the special circumstances essay. (For future reference! I know I studied past threads when I was applying.) I asked her about the appeals process, because I was unaware of how my old transferable credits were going to affect my transfer GPA. So she gave me two options: apply for the appeal now since I’ll be sending additional transcripts that raise my GPA a couple points or wait until they make a decision and then appeal. I think I will be doing the latter. Anyways, thought this might help or give a bit more information to anyone needing it! Best of luck!
I got LoR from my Physics Cal Chem CS Prof. all 4 and They are really close to me, I believe they will write a good one for me. Do any of you guys think LoR matter a lot in admission process?
@MyLonghorn ap credits count towards your 30 hours!
@myutaustin I think if you still can you should change your 2nd major to a cockrell one, the counselor i emailed told me to show intent you should have both majors set to the school
@ecehopeful, I’ll try it tomorrow for sure. I also thought my putting CNS was anyway a waste as I’d never leave UTD unless I get into ChemE. I love UTD and stay there if I were to do anything else.
Just got my rejection letter today rom A&M. I’m shocked considering I’ll have my associate’s in engineering finished this spring and currently have a 3.76 GPA with 74 credits. I’m a veteran and heard that A&M was military friendly. Well it doesn’t appear so bc I didn’t even make the first round of cuts. Can anyone see what the issue is? I had the SOP reviewed by many different people with thumbs up. Not a lot of ECs bc I have a wife and kid which keeps me busy when im not doing school or Reserves stuff. Fingers crossed for UT but I assumed UT was the tougher one and A&M was the sure bet.
@hawaiinJay I don’t know much about engineering but your stats seem pretty good and the veteran thing certainly helps. I think you may have just been dealt a shit hand on that one. Sometimes there’s no clear reason to a rejection. Unless maybe the essays were weak? I’d say you still have a shot for UT but I also don’t know the avg Cockrell admission stats. But regardless I wish the best of luck to you - sorry about A&M!!
@Yoohooos I heard that although they’re not necessary, they can only help you! I think it helps because it puts you in a good light from another source, not just your essays.
@hawaiinjay you may want to call them up cause my friend got a rejection letter also , but if you send in your transcripts at the end of this semester , they give you another chance
I made the first cut for A&M. They want my transcript for this spring semester before they make a decision.
I got accepted to mays business school @ A&M 2 weeks ago. Still hoping for UT though!! @hawaiinJay you should give them a call. Your stats look really good, not sure why they would reject you. And thank you for your service.
@hawaiinjay you may want to call them up cause my friend got a rejection letter also , but if he send in your transcripts at the end of this semester , they give you another chance apparently , did you have the requirements to apply for engineering school?
@ecehopeful what did they mean by intent? shouldn’t it be assumed we are all trying to get into the school. Others through one single school or chancing at multiples. So does it look bad if a person applies to two different schools instead of the same program twice. I say this because if one was to get rejected to the first major and the second was to the same program they would automatically be rejected once again. If i’m making sense please clarify for me, because i choose COLA and COE programs 1st and 2nd respectively. Thank You.
I’m gonna call them. I Have every one of the requirements from the transfer list completed. I’ll also have an AS in Engineering this spring. I’m finishing up Diff EQ and have two cake classes (lit and art) so my GPA won’t go down.
@nikecheck
I think “intent” means that an applicant has a strong desire to become an engineer with no qualms about which they enter. An applicant who had ChemE as 1st choice and CNS chem as 2nd would show qualms about what they enter. The latter would demonstrate a stronger intention to transfer (into ChemE) if accepted to their 2nd choice.
Alright, so I know I’ve already asked y’all to chance me on here once, but I found a few things that I think might (negatively) alter my chance at admission and I need to calm my anxiety somehow…
Fall 2014 GPA was 3.4. However, after having found out that dual credit hours were averaged into your total cumulative GPA, it fell to a 3.1. I emailed admissions and they told me that they do review the application holistically and will differentiate between classes taken in high school and classes taken in college, but I don’t know what that means for me.
If I were to make a 3.8/4.0 this semester (Spring 2015), what would my chances be?
P.S.: I have 3 rec letters (two from alumni), a decent resume, and pretty good essays (8/10 on both). Applying for Advertising 1st choice, COLA undeclared 2nd choice.
