Summer/Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

@alexd15‌

I go to TCC also and trying to transfer into RTF!

I have a 3.61 at 51 hours completed according to UT. I also had more credits and a higher GPA but they recalculate your GPA based off the classes that will transfer.

UT does a holistic review which I believe is even more prevalent for RTF. Grades are super important for UT but they are also looking for people who are passionate about video production. In the video production world grades don’t mean anything. It’s all based on your reel work.

In short, having a good background in RTF will help you out!

You’re the first other instate person I have met on this thread applying for RTF. All in all, it’s based on the applicant pool for this year. I think you have a really good shot!

@Geekytheatregeek‌ No they make a decision after you send your final transcript. There usually is space in every college except a few majors. Cockrell and Mccombs will probably full or near it by the time we send our final transcripts in.

@Geekytheatregeek‌ I think you have a great shot for transferring into Fine Arts because it isn’t a major a lot of people are tying to transfer into. I have heard that they allocate a certain amount of slots for CAP students. You got this!

If they’re allocating slots for CAP students, that would honestly be better for us. That way, we won’t be competing with external transfer applicants who are sophomores or higher and have completed most/if not all the pre-requisites for competitive majors such as engineering or business. Essentially there’d be less of a gap in the number of hours completed.

Additionally, it would make sense that they would conserve spots considering we have to wait until the end of this semester to complete our application.

@JD1327 I did unofficially hear that they do allocate slots for CAP students based on what we declare in March. They basically see how many of us want to get in that major and put several spots aside based on that number, and it’s for all schools. When I tried asking other people about it, though, they all shrugged and said I don’t know, so either they don’t want us to know about it or it really is based on how many other transfers and spots they have. I heard this from the supposedly head of admissions in Austin ( They told me I was being transferred to him when I called them over the phone). But yeah, if this is the case, it will definitely be better for us, so fingers crossed!

I finally had a chance to get up to the admissions office today–spoke with the director of undergrad admissions and she went ahead and let me apply under the Academic Fresh Start law (without being denied first) [-O< cumulative GPA is now a 4.0 :-B feeling pretty excited if you can’t tell lol

She also told me that last year there were 7-8 spots for transfer students in PE–and there were about 25 qualified applicants (30+ hrs / all required courses completed) with a 4.0. Getting into PE is unlikely–but hoping my RecLetters and essays help me stand out. Now back to the waiting game…

@Daniele96‌ just a FYI-- I think the UT offices are closed this Friday (it’s good Friday) I may be wrong tho

I have a question guys… I’m reading a lot of posts saying a 4.0 isn’t a guarantee into McCombs, but average GPA accepted into McCombs is around a 3.9 according to their website. With a 4.0 and some leadership, extracurriculars, and not horrible essays, it should be a fairly high chance of acceptance no?

@dlm140030‌ pretty high chance , but i know a lot of people applying for McCombs and they all have a 4.0s so its really still questionable

@MyLonghorn‌ true, but did you know any that were rejected? Idk I’m just wondering because a 3.9 AVERAGE must mean either they avoid accepting all 4.0s, or they accept enough people below 3.9 to balance it out right…? Just wondering haha , don’t see many people talking about McCombs

probably accept a couple of people with 3.8s

Ah… Eh I hope they do take a 4.0, since GPA seems to be the end all be all. it’s the only statistic that isn’t subjective I think. Everything else, especially essays, are all opinionated.

Is there another way to check my GPA that UT calculated? I already submitted my scholarship application, and I can’t get back to see it.

Does anyone happen to have any insight as to how much tougher they are on out of state transfer applicants? I know they are harder on the freshman OOS but I feel like with less automatic admissions OOS matters a little less for transfers, but that’s just a guess. I’m also over 30 credits if that counts for anything.

@dlm140030 do you have all the indicator courses (calc 1, & 2, micro, and macro) completed? In that case you are most likely in good shape. I am applying to McCombs as well

@ecollin‌ oh yea, I do! And over 30 hours so I hope we both hear back soon… McCombs is one of the last to respond tho yes?

@dlm140030 Well, I obviously can’t say anything for sure but it certainly sounds like you are where you need to be as far as your stats goes. McCombs vary from year to year… some years they have been the first to send out decisions, other years they have been the first.

@TheThinker7‌, I’,m also not able to figure out the GPA that UT calculated while most folks on this thread do. I think it should be visible from the Finance Aid tab but for me, this is what it shows:

"You have not applied for aid.
See CASH for application information.

We have received your Continuing & Transfer Student Scholarship Application for 2015."

Anyone, any idea how to find the UT calculated GPA now.

Anyone else application status changed yet? I already have 30 transferable hours so I’m starting to get a paranoid that UT Austin doesn’t somehow have my application. I know I have to be patient but the wait for me is full of suspense.

guys before 2 weeks ago, I could check my financial aid application to see my “calculated GPA” but today the website states

Please check back.
Access to financial aid status information is restricted to admitted students. If you are offered admission to UT Austin, please check back to access your financial aid information.

The deadline for the 2015 Continuing & Transfer Student Scholarship Application has passed.

Anyone can see this?
