Can anyone chance me? Stats on the first page
@Kyotoraz With your grades, I wouldn’t worry too much. Despite what others have said, I don’t think getting into CNS is that difficult outside of computer science. Based on what I’ve seen in past transfer threads, you’re a strong applicant. However, you might want to consider taking Cal 2 this upcoming spring if you haven’t already done so. Obviously it isn’t listed as a required course for transfer, but many of the accepted applicants on cc completed 1 and 2.
I am really confused about how people can request for appeals.
I was rejected the first time I applied to UT, I had low standardized test scores. However, I graduated within the top 7% of my class during the second semester of my senior year (I was in top 9% during the admissions process so I did not qualify for auto admissions). Do you think I can request for an appeal since I technically was in the top 7% of my senior year?
Absolutely that’s what happened to me ^ by state law technically they have to accept you @decorus
@decorus I believe the law states that you have to be within that percentage when you applied. Now if you appealed I do think you have a chance of getting in. Best choice is to call admissions and make everything clear.
It appears from your postings @decorus that you are currently a freshman at another university. I think you must have applied for freshman admission to UT Austin LAST YEAR. I do not think the admissions folks are going to entertain an appeal plea a year later. Your stats look good for transferring, and you could mention this information in your transfer application responses. But I do not think an appeal is a viable option.
For CS major, do we need to take any CS course prior the application process? ?
Actually, anyone know what EC I can do for applying for Cockrell?
@Yoohooos If you’re still planning on CS, there are no CS related courses needed for the application process, although it would help. For Cockrell, possibly join your college’s engineering groups. Or just in general list some work you’ve done involving the major(s) you plan to apply for.
Have any of you guys submitted letters of recommendations from high school teachers? Or does UT only look for professors?
@decorus, I submitted one from a college professor and one from a high school teacher to be safe
@michips Thanks! I am trying to do that too, but i took upper level classes last semester and when I asked two professors to write me a rec letter, they both said they had a weird system where they can only write rec letters to students (junior/senior standing) who are within their major ?? It’s weird, but I’ll try to ask a professor this upcoming semester. Good luck with your application!
By the way, has anybody told their college professors they are thinking about transferring to a different college? Im not sure how to go about this when asking for rec letters
Hey guys! Kinda new to this, but I’ve been following this thread as well as the Spring 2015 transfer thread because I have been having way too much anxiety over this whole transferring ordeal. If anyone could chance me, that’d be great!
Applying for UT Fall 2015 as transfer student from ACC, and applying to COLA as my major being Psychology. Second choice being The school of Social Work.
As of the end of spring 2015 I will have 51 credit hours and will be standing at a GPA of 3.4.
I have a great resume filled with volunteer work that I’ve done in the US as well as overseas and tremendous essays that discuss the issues of Syria seeing as my family is from there.
I know my GPA is a little low but seeing as I was at a 2.8 last Spring and I was able to bump it up all the way to a 3.4 will hopefully show the admissions office I’m serious about working my butt off to get in.
Let me know, thank you!
I am at USFCA and it is not the right fit for me. I have a 3.93 and I am a finance major. I am really interested in transferring to a larger D1 school as I am also a D1 runner. I am looking for merit scholarships, what are some good place to look into?
@qpurtz If you’re wanting to go to college in Texas for merit scholarships then I would consider Texas Texas or Texas A&M. They really give a lot of scholarships out to students and especially merit scholarships. They both have great D1 sport programs. As for UT they really don’t send out scholarships.
University of North Texas
4.0/4.0
CNS
1st -Neuroscience 2nd -Psychology
I’d say my essays fill the gaps pretty well.
No letters of recommendation although I could probably get them.
I had a job the latter half of last semester + the summer lol. My ECs are pretty bad in all honesty, but I spend 10-15 hours a week training for marathons sooo. My resume is pretty bad.
@cristofff I think you have a very good chance with your 4.0, as GPA weighs the most for UT. Since you are interested in CNS, have you taken calc 1 or calc 2? They don’t emphasize it, but having those credits will definitely make you a competitive candidate.
Chance me?
San Jacinto Community College-Central
Current GPA: 3.2 on 16 Credits (I Know, Bad.)
Spring Semester GPA expected: 4.00, right now that puts me around 3.55-3.60 range for total on 30 credits.
I wont have the 30 credits until early May though, which puts me at a disadvantage.
1st-CNS-Biology
2nd-undecided
Essays I would say are pretty strong.
2 Letters of Recommendation- 1st from Biology Teacher who did her Doctoral work at UT and 2nd from a Distinguished Alumni who majored in Petroleum Engineering at UT and is currently a major oil company owner. He donates pretty heavily as well if that adds anything.
I hold 2 jobs currently, In a position at the college and as a event helper at a event center here in Houston.
Avid in fighter MMA/BJJ.
I have a total of about 50 hours of community service and volunteer work such as the Houston Food Bank, Churches, Festivals etc.
All of my classes from Fall and Spring Semester:
Summer minis:
College Algebra: C+
English 1: B+
Intro to college: B+
Fall:
Biology 1 plus Lab: B+
Government: A
I received 2 W’s this semester. Though no excuse, I have to help support my mother and sister and taking on 2 jobs was needed at the time.
Spring:
Biology 2 plus Lab: Projected grade A
Chem 1 plus Lab: Projected grade A
Statistics: Projected grade B+ though I am striving for an A
Art Appreciation: Projected grade A.
I know my Academic achievements seem poor right now, but hopefully with an upward trend and adding in some more ECs I can work towards getting an acceptance letter.
@ssppiikkeerr I do recommend you to take Cal 1 during the summer and Cal2 if you can. For better chance
