So please chance me or give advice for next semester ; My desire major is ECE !, my backup is taking my CAP transfer and going UGS then internally transferring but id rather not waste a semester

@stevenjp,@MyLonghorn…Thanks! I needed that, been feeling quite hopeless.

@MyLonghorn, Your stats are great with a tough courseload! All I can offer are some positive vibes, sending now…

@cdctransfer‌
I thought because we are transfer students after completing only one year HS grades are considered in the application process?

@PastePotPete‌
Where did you get information for the pooling of internal, external, PACE students for the transfer application process?

@punctiliouseye‌ It’s all about your college GPA and the other parts listed for holistic review. You don’t even have to send in your HS transcript until after you’re accepted.

Does anyone know if an in progress course can satisfy a requirement? I’m currently applying to Cockrell for Civil Engineering, and I have A’s in Calc I-III and I meet the 30 credit preference, but I also am only just now taking the equivalent to Engineering Physics I and lab. I took General Physics I last year and got an A but that won’t transfer.

Also, what are the chances for an out of state transfer with a 3.96 gpa and those courses (48 credit total)? I am also taking Chem I now and my letter of rec came from the Calc II professor

@stevejp They’ll probably ask for you to submit your spring semester transcript before you hear a decision. That’s the case for all CAP students as well.

Hello! I would like a chancing:

Current School: UTD (EE Major)
Current GPA: 3.875, projected to stay within 3.7-3.9

intro to ee 2 (A)
Linear Algebra- (A-)

Essays: Strong

Letters of recommendation : High School soccer coach/teacher

Extracurriculars/Volunteering: below average-average

Specific questions:
Do they only look at my application after i submit spring grades?
What are my chances for making either ECE or ME?

Thank you all!

@ecehopeful‌ lol your my competition but ill still chance you … they look pretty good , idk how many people ECE accepts every year… but your Competition is me so you can compare and contrast lol

@nikecheck‌ Overall your application isn’t too bad. The only part that sort of makes me question your chance is your GPA . Besides that I think you shouldn’t worry.

Exactly how competitive is CNS Chemistry and COLA Psychology?

Also any idea what is the best backup? Meaning what is the easiest major to get into?

I am currently a first year student at a UT satellite school, I just wanted to see what my chances will be for being accepted as a transfer student next fall.

Major(s):
First Choice - Aerospace Engineering
Second Choice - Mechanical Engineering

Grades(s):
Fall GPA - 4.0
Estimated Spring GPA- 4.0
Dual Credit - I received 2 Bs in Writing Comp. I & II, which I took in high school. I know these will be considered in my transfer application. Hopefully they will see that I took these two classes in high school, and they won’t hurt my chances too bad?

Classes:
Fall -

  • Calculus I (A)
  • General Chemistry I (A)
  • Intro. to Literature (A)
  • American Government (A)
  • Freshman Exploration Class (A)
    Spring -
  • Calculus II (A)
  • Physics I Lab (A)
  • Sociology (A)
  • Music Composition (A)
  • Texas Politics (A)

AP Credits:

  • Physics I (3 hours)
  • US History I & II (6 hours)
  • World History (3 hours)
  • German (23 hours)

Activities:
College -

  • Formula SAE
  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers
  • Intramural Soccer
    High School -
  • Band (Section Leader)
  • Best Buddies

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated, will my 2 Bs in dual credits classes hurt my chances much? With those factored in my overall GPA would be a 3.83.

I forgot to mention, but I visited UT this past winter break and talked with an engineering advisor. She said they accepted ~45 people to ECE out of a few hundred that applied.

@Chuffer‌: I’m practically in the same situation you’re in, 4.0 in college but subpar dual credit GPA. I speaked to admissions and was told the dual credit thing is common among transfer applicants and that “most students don’t fully understand how dual credit affects GPA anyway.” If it makes you feel any better, admissions will see the B’s came from dual credit. In all honesty, I wouldn’t worry about it too much as technically it doesn’t show your performance in college as a college student. Best of luck to you and to others applying.

I applied for Fall 2015, wondering if anyone could chance me…
1st choice major: Radio-Television-Film in the Moody College
2nd choice: Advertising in the Moody College

Transferring from Northeastern University
I have a 3.82 GPA

Not much coursework relevant to the RTF major, as I had just changed my major at NU from sociology to media & screen studies
I took TV Field Production and Audio Production, but got A- in both of them (yikes, i know)
Both of my rec letters are from instructors from the above courses.
I don’t think the instructor for TV Field liked me that much, but I was the student who took the most artistic risk in the class, so hopefully she’ll write about that.
I really think the instructor for Audio Production wrote a great rec letter (obviously I haven’t seen it, but he’s an awesome guy and I was one of his favorite students)

I’m not currently taking any classes, and moved back home to PA (btw OOS applicant), on leave from Northeastern
However, I got a part-time job like the week I got back from Boston and am also volunteering at the same animal shelter I volunteered at last summer.

Extracurriculars:
In high school I had leadership positions in two clubs, and a part-time job.

College:
part of a club sports team that traveled throughout the Northeast for races every weekend (so, a big time commitment)
(no other clubs, I know --bad. but all the clubs at my old school sucked and I never liked any enough to attend regularly)

Theater tech job all throughout college.
In my last semester at NU I added on another part-time job at a grocery store (hoping the 2 jobs thing will carry a lot of weight)

Last summer I volunteered 50 hours at an animal shelter, I went basically once a week to feed the animals and clean their cages. I am continuing to volunteer at this organization right now as well.

Have produced video projects for 2 non-profit groups (I produced them myself, its not like an official job or anything).
Other than that, no internships or film extracurriculars which is what really worries me. In my essay, I talk about how I didn’t even realize I wanted to major in this until last semester, so hopefully that will forgive the lack of ECs actually related to my major.

Essays
I think my personal statement (Topic A) was good. It was straight to the point and talked about how I’ve matured in the past two years since high school. I kind of took the no-bullshit get-it-done approach in how I portrayed myself.

My other essay on an issue (Topic E) ehh, I don’t know. That one was harder to write. Because I used to be a sociology major, I obviously care about a lot of different social issues. So, I wrote the essay on how more young people have to vote (only 45% do) so that our voices are heard on social issues. IDK if they’ll like that topic or not, but I felt it was a safe route because it’s pretty patriotic.

I was feeling really confident with my 3.82 GPA before I came on CC, but apparently a 3.82 is like the bare minimum needed to be considered for the Moody College.

Any other RTF hopefuls here? It seems almost all of the threads on UT Austin are about the business school or the engineering school.

@camgard‌

Finally another RTF hopeful!

I’m applying to RTF for Fall 2015 as well. I’m a little worried because my GPA is a little low at a 3.61 according to UT’s cumulative transfer GPA. You might want to check my status to see your official GPA UT calculated for you.

Anyways here are my stats:

Tarrant County College
3.61 - 51 Hrs. (Two of the B’s are my high school dual credit which people claim they are somewhat forgiving of…)
Applying to Moody School of Communication
1st Choice - RTF
2nd Choice - COLA Undeclared
Very strong first essay. Great second essay.
3 Letters of Rec. w/ two being from audio/video production teachers

Resume:

I hope UT will look at my film experience and forgive my lower GPA…

Anyways, @camgard‌ UT does a holistic admission meaning they look at everything and consider you carefully. Your GPA is solid (I emailed a counselor and they said 3.65 is in the ballpark for Moody.) Moody gives more of a holistic consideration then compared to business/engineering which are essentially GPA cutoffs.

Have you looked into which of your classes will transfer into the RTF program? They have a transfer equivalency calculator that you can use. Being OOS will make things a little bit more difficult, but you have a good GPA so don’t worry too much!

Feel free to ask me anymore questions! I’m glad someone else is also applying to RTF and will make the wait more bearable!
