Summer/Fall Storage and class registration

Great information! Thanks for posting, Leon. :)

thanks for all he great field research. I really appreciate your gathering info for us unable to atend preview.

sounds like there is a good solution for storage. the registration issue is a bit more clouded. i think its clear that registering for two courses for the summer does not require as much advisory assistance as a full Fall semester schedule. I understand that this is the way it is done, however a more equitable solution might be to have the summer kids register for fall classes during orientation (just like the fall freshman), and then have the summer freshman register for their two summer courses on their own. that way, both the fall and summer students get the benefit of a full orienation session with their advisor to map out their first full schedule of classes. this places those students on a equal playing field. then the summer registration would be left up to the students to do on their own or in coordination with their advisor.

FSULEON, thanks for the info. I do have to tell you that several students and parents have told me personally that students in the past DID register for summer and fall when they went for orientation. Do you really believe that a 6 weeks summer session taking 2 classes/6 hours is the same as a spring or fall taking 15 hours? Of course students when they register for fall do not register for sping. But summer is generally registered together with fall. And with such a competative group, the students coming in summer for the most part here on the cc boards ASKED for a summer head start, this is not a remedial summer. They are bringing dual enrollment and AP classes/credits, and really want an advising session that looks at the whole picture, and gets their freshman year going, not an advising session for 2 summer elective classes, then slim pickings when those who will register for fall are done. Some of the brightest kids wanted a head start, and to get going and acclimated for fall. Just because they are not in honors, doesn't mean summer admits ought to be religated to a status less than fall. Those of us posting here have kids who CHOSE to enroll in summer right from the start.

Cybermom--could you clarify if your son registered for summer and fall together as a freshman?

My son attended FALL his first year so my belief that you register for both semesters together as a SUMMER FTIC seems to be incorrect. My apologies.

Just wondering ...how are current Summer C students finding their registration experience since window opened up on Tuesday? My S put together a decent Fall schedule but it was a challenge.

My D was lucky. She planned out a schedule based on open sections, with 2 classes on T-Th and 2 on M-W-F. She signed into Blackboard a little before 8, was able to get onto the registration site by 8:05. She found it just a little slow, but got her choices and that was that. There is an intro 1hr course that had one section of 180 that was full before the window opened that she will follow to see if it opens up. It is once a week on M at 8am (and was already full!!). Her Academic Map puts it due by end of sophomore year so no rush, but she was hoping to get it done soon. No early classes or classed that run too late.
