So I was researching the possibility of taking Geometry over the summer. I'm an all A student in a good Algebra I course right now. I'm more of a humanities kid but I'm not bad at math. It probably wouldn't be that hard to physically attend if I wanted to however with me going to Groton next year I was wondering if it was a waste of time? Any opinions/experiences would be appreciated.

Wait Blue, where are you gonna do that because I was thinking about the exact same thing lol…

I"m looking into it. Our High School doesn’t seem to host it. I looked at our community college but couldn’t see anything. The brochures on summer school in our county will be released in “early April” to quote the website. I’m sure there’s a course somewhere though, I just can’t be bothered researching it in depth till I know if it’ll be a good idea or not. Mabye you could ask our Math teacher? Or I could…

Yeah I’ll ask him when I get back because I really want to start off taking Algebra 2 in HS so I could have finished IB HL Math by the end of HS lol… I found tjis website that offers 1 credit in High School Geometry and it costs 40$ but idk if its recognized…

Yeah, I saw courses like that but I think anything off the internet might be a little dodgy. I want to go to proper classes, I wouldn’t mind going every day for most of the summer to get into Algebra II in 9th grade. although the though makes me want to scream a little!

I could only do it in the month of August or online so idk but im gonna ask my counselor maybe …

Tell me what they say, please? I might go home for part of the summer as well.

I’ll tell you once I get the info when I get back from
Spring Break !:)

Blue - find out at your Groton revisit who is teaching geometry next year. Although taking some online class may be beneficial, you do not want to miss any chance to be taught by Mr. Choate - the most amazing math teacher ever.

Thanks grotonalum I’ll ask.
Do most 9th graders go into Geometry at Groton? I mean clearly there’ll be some prodigys who are miles ahead but on the whole?

I was planning on taking Algebra 2 over the summer and using an online class, then switching class in the fall since placement tests are in April.

Somebody on CC told me about: [ALEKS – Assessment and Learning, K-12, Higher Education, Automated Tutor, Math](http://www.aleks.com)

im doing thinkwell online and its pretty good. for algebra 2.

[Duke TIP Independent Learning, Geometry](http://www.tip.duke.edu/independent_learning/mathematics/geometry.html)

I am actually using this but for algebra 2 this summer. I am in geometry now (9th grade).

It is more of an independent program. You get a couple of workbooks. One has assignments in it and one has quizzes and there is a book with a midterm and a final. You just purchase the textbook it requires and you can purchase the workbook things from duke tip. I haven’t used it yet but I flipped through my books and it seems well-organized.

The nice thing is that you can go as fast or as slow as you want. If you dont understand a topic you can spend a few extra days on it and if you understand something you can go faster. I haven’t actually used the program but it sounds nice for an independent student who doesn’t want to pay $500+ for a class and has the ability to work alone.

My school runs year round and I receive good grades year round, in the 86-100 range. I’m confident that I’ll be admitted on the bases of my consistency in my classes. If i get into Chatham Hall i don’t plan on going to summer school because i probably won’t have to. They school will basically let me go if i get in to Chatham. I know Chatham Hall gives summer homework to both new and current sudents so, that’s what I’ll be doing, memorizing formulas for Physics and writing a book report.

I think this thread speaks the true nerdiness of us coughYOUcough all sigh

Innerstar, I’m not failing math or anything, I’m actually near the top of my class. I don’t need to attend summer school but being a true nerd like Rad in Plaid I want to get ahead if it’s worth it!

heheh Blue, you and I are NOT in the same boat of nerdiness. me+math=NO and I would never do anything math related voluntarily. photography or lit on the other hand…

btw, mis padres were trying to get me to do a Math thing @ Mt. Holyoke that you might want to check out. I’ll see if I can get a link.

Rad, I’m no math fan. Humanities all the way!!! I just won’t to get ahead seeing as most of my friends are already in Geometry… And in real life I’m honestly no where near as nerdy as on CC. I’m quite bookish but I have friends, can be sociable and witty and I play sport… Although admittedly I do spazz over Harry potter and I quote use “big words”. We were playing the game Taboo in english (great game; google it if you don’t know it) and I got told to use simple words that regular peope understand :p

same here! idk why people think such simple words are ‘big’! like idk…example…hmmm…soliloquy…bad example idk help me out here!
