You know what the difference between a summer spent doing nothing and a summer spent doing something meaningful is?

Some planning.

Now is the time to start looking for that internship you've always wanted (even if many have already filled!), or looking into great study abroad options for the next year.

Every student can say that they've taken classes, but how many can say they spent the summer in _______ helping out with health projects? Or working for _______ and helping increase efficiency in the _____ dept.?

I know summer seems far away and midterms seem like the most important thing in the world, but when summer rolls around and you're not just working a part-time job at the student store, you'll thank me.

ICU's fantastic for an exchange student. Tons of English speakers around to make sure you don't go insane, but more than enough opportunities to speak only Japanese. Plus, you're extremely close to a lot of fun places in Tokyo.

Financial aid will adjust your package to meet your needs.

namaste,

Get your resume and cover letter(s) proofed by the career center. Start asking yourself where you want to intern in the first place, and start targeting them at career fairs. Give everyone your resume. EVERYONE. Ask classmates where they did theirs, and ask for contacts.

What are you interested in, anyway? I may be able to help.

Do you think Bruinview is useful? I looked at the posting about internships, and there were hardly any. What is it useful for? As a medium to contact you for a meetup?

It's useful but limited. Any contacts you can make in the internship game are useful, no matter how small they may be. Sometimes, the smaller internships are better simply because they're more likely to offer you more responsibility and work.

How about engineering internships for freshmen? It seems most of them require a certain amount of engineering experience or relevant coursework. Whats a good resource to look for and apply to the available internships?

It's definitely hard to get an engineering internship as a freshman.. I had one my freshman year (through connections) but all the other interns I worked up and that they looked for were graduate students.

The coursework I had as a freshman definitely didn't do anything for my internship..

The best place to start would be your professors. Start by asking them if they know anyone who needs an intern. Also go to the career center and ask around. They may seem distant and uninvolved, but they're actually a great resource.

rosedust,

I only did the language study there, and it was VERY well done. I also studied at Tsukuba University.
