Summer Job dilemma

Hey guys, I have somewhat of a problem. I want a job, and I have zero experience. I am a high school graduate (going to UCLA in a couple months).

1) I do not have any work experience (neither employment nor volunteer experience).

2) I have references, but they are all teachers/school administrators/school principal (not supervisors/managers), and they only gave me their school telephone numbers. This might be a problem because it's summer now, and picking up messages on their school phones might be the last thing my teachers are doing...so will this be a problem??

3) I applied for Target, Costco, Vons, Pavilions, Carls Jr, Z pizza, Toys R Us, etc. No luck. There are seemingly hundreds of stores out there. Should I just go to every one??

4) I have two months of summer left, so I'll only be able to work for two months before I go to college. How bad is this with regard to my employment prospects?

5) Does craigslist and monster look for people who don't have experience?

6) Illegal immigrants can get jobs in America. So I'm not complaining about there being not enough jobs in America. I'm willing to do whatever it takes. What are some alternative sources of employment that lots of high school students overlook?

I'm just looking for a way to make money in the next two months. I'm somewhat tempted to lie/bend the truth to get a job. But I'd rather not, because lying is wrong, I don't want to get caught, and I don't want other people to lie on my behalf...so my question is essentially: What steps should I take in order to maximize my chances of getting (any) job in the next week or so? What am I doing wrong given the circumstances that I'm in (no exp.)?

Thanks a lot.

If you're 18, go find some warehouse/construction/lifting work if you're able.

Any summer temporary places around where you are? Son got a job at an amusement park. They only want him for the summer so that is perfect. But there is also the option of coming back to it for Christmas and next summer.

Look around for "Open Interviews" signs. They're all over the place around here, and the economy is worse here than it is where you're at, I'll guarentee. Yeah, most places won't hire you for just 2 months, but SOMEBODY will.

call every store that you know and ask if they are hiring.

azsxdc gave good advice. I have a job already this summer, but wanted another and couldn't find one due to the tough job market, so I contacted a temp agency and now I do physical labor. Your not going to be working with people your age or status, as (not be be rude) I'm probably the only one at my job with any sort of a future, but work is work and everyone needs money.

A day camp or sleep away camp. Lasts only for the summer. Pretty good experience.

Try local businesses. I got a job at one. Didn't ask for a shred of experience. They just wanted someone (a teenage girl..) working.

Otherwise, try craigslist.

It's definitely harder to get jobs during this part of summer- I had to interview for my day-camp job back in January (bleh).

Try other grocery stores, or like other people said- factories/warehouses. You can make a lot of money doing manual-type labor, if you want to.

Next year, try to apply in May or as soon as UCLA gets out.

Good luck!
